While I’m a fan of the P2 cameras, I’d have to agree with Shane here.
For a university program, I would favor the HM-150 since it records to SDHC cards, rather than the pricier P2 cards. If students are out on a shoot and need additional storage media, they’d be more likely to find–and be able to afford–additional SDHC cards.
(And the university could replace lost or stolen SDHC cards more inexpensive than P2.)
That’s my 2¢, anyway.

Might have downloaded to your Applications folder, but you might have to install the filters in your FCP Plugins folder (Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro System Support>Plugins.
But I’m just guessing . . .

Too bad. I really want the Heart of Gold Improbability Drive, but my Brownian Motion Generator will be cold by 2019 . . . .

Hi, Jason
Thanks for clearing that up.
It’s apples and oranges, really. If you must edit on the go, then get the MacBook Pro. But if you’re staying put, a tricked out MacPro tower will outperform the MacBook Pro: eight cores vs. two, capacity for much more RAM (up to 32 GB), graphics card with onboard VRAM will permit you to use Motion and, of course, the bigger desktop with your two monitor set up.
It won’t gather cobwebs.
Good luck!

Hi, Dave
As far as I’m aware, Automatic Duck is your only option.
But I’ve only ever heard good things about Automatic Duck products.https://www.automaticduck.com/products/pefcp/
P.S. You never write, you never call . . . .

Hi, Jay
I think you need to clear up some confusion, before you’ll get a straight answer.
Are you sure you have a G5? I don’t recall there ever being a 2 x 3 Ghz quad G5. (I thought G5’s stopped at a single quad 2.5.)
To run FCP 7 you’ll need MacPro with an Intel processor. (None of the G5’s had Intel processors.)
On the other hand, if you do have a 3 Ghz eight core, then you already have MacPro and you should be good to go.

Hi, Amy
Convert the mp3s in iTunes to aif at 48 khz.
Also, ditch the USB drive and use a FW drive instead. (USBs are thought not to have a fast enough transfer rate to be reliable in Final Cut.)
Good luck!

No answers here, but a few questions:
All AIFs, no mp3s, as your music clips?
Have you tried the usual voodoo (i.e. Trash prefs, Repair Permissions) ?
Maybe somebody will know what’s going on.

Import all the clips into a bin, sort the bin by Media Start (so they arrange themselves in chronological order), then drag to sequence, apply Timecode Reader filter to all clips and start transcribing.
I know you don’t want to be out of a job, Ben, but this sounds like an enormous amount of work. Depending on how long you have to deliver the transcripts, you might want to consider sending it out to a transcription service. They can tell you in advance how much it will cost. If it’s less than you’re getting paid, you might ship it out, pocket the difference and save yourself the bother.
I use these guys and have been fairly pleased: https://www.productiontranscripts.com/
Good luck!
