  • Problem rendering music tracks.

Posted by Amy Toby on March 16, 2010 at 5:48 pm

    Hi,

New problem; when i open up an existing project – FCP stalls for about 10 seconds and then everything in my sequence becomes unrendered (red) and i get a “cant locate media” message. Reconnecting media does nothing. Scratch disks are set correctly.

if i try to render the clips, the picture clips will render but my song/soundtrack underneath will not. If i pull the song out and move it in the sequence, isolate it away from the other clips, then it does render. But I cannot make it render while it is part of the video – ie. while there are picture clips sitting on top of it.

I have played with sequence settings recently because i needed to make an NTSC DVD, but i have returned all my settings to normal. (I import HDV 1080i, i’m based in Sydney, AUS) I also use multiple hardrives for different project but always re-set scratch disks.

Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.

No answers here, but a few questions:

All AIFs, no mp3s, as your music clips?

Have you tried the usual voodoo (i.e. Trash prefs, Repair Permissions) ?

Maybe somebody will know what’s going on.

    Hey Mike,

Im actually using an MP3, so maybe thats my first problem.
Beyond that though its as if FCP isnt locating the media at all. I noticed that my drive doesnt appear in my finder – only on the desktop.

Possible crappy drive issues? Im using a 500GB Verbatim USB2 drive.

    Im starting to think it’s a combination of a) mp3, b) crappy drive c) sequence settings….

its seems a few people i’ve spoken to have a problem where every time you open a project the files all immediately un-render.

    anyone else got ideas?

    cheers,
    A.

    Hi, Amy

Convert the mp3s in iTunes to aif at 48 khz.

Also, ditch the USB drive and use a FW drive instead. (USBs are thought not to have a fast enough transfer rate to be reliable in Final Cut.)

    Good luck!
