I figured out the problem… I need to buy a Mac with Final Cut and DVD studio pro.

it all depends on where you want the video to be played… Virtually every editing system these days is set for Lower field dominance, (lower field first), except, I believe, some Avid systems… If you are using either final cut or premiere, you will want it in lower field first, or lower field dominance.

If you are going to be showing it on a computer screen only, do as has been said, that is, deinterlace the footage, as your computer screen does not work in fields, but is progressive.

    good luck

is it possible that the field dominance might have something to do with it? I set it for Lower, and I am pretty sure Encore is defaulted to lower, but even the stills that do work look like garbage, so I am wondering if I have some field issues. I will try turning off the optimize stills setting.

I am not entirely sure which version of shine I have. I was trying to figure out the problem last night, and I noticed that it only happens when I have my quality set to “third” it works just fine for Full, Half, and Quarter, but for some reason it went crazy on third. Who knows. I guess for now I can simply RAM preview at half or quarter as to avoid the problem. Thanks for researching this one for me… I will look into the newer version of Shine.

That’s great… I did the same thing yesterday. I was pulling an all-nighter finishing a project for someone, and I managed to lose all brain power around 5:30 in the morning… Mask Mode pulldowns were disappearing, I couldn’t remember my name, and I was convinced that my computer hated me. I’m sure everyone can identify with me to some degree on that one. Keep your head up, man, we all make those brain-dead mistakes.
