Try reducing the size.
Unless you’re doing an extreme zoom, 2x project size (1440 x 960 for SD NTSC) is large enough. -
Allen, if there are any reputable CCTV (closed circuit TV) dealers in your area, go and talk to them.
CCTV color cameras are available from most of the names you already know such as Sony, Panasonic, JVC & Hitachi (as well as a lot you’ve never heard of!!) and, since it’s a camera head only, prices are far less than a camcorder.
A quick search didn’t turn up any 3-chip models but that’s not to say that they don’t exist. -

You’ll have a hard time finding anyone here who will agree with that statement. -

Anytime I do encoding from the Vegas timeline, I almost always tweak the bitrate so that I get the best possible quality out of it.
You do this by clicking the Custom button next to the Template box.
You can select Best mode in the first tab that comes up.
Then click the Video tab and you get the other options you talked about.
BTW, if you do everything right (and use a bitrate calculator for longer than 70 min. projects, you’ll never need to do a “fit to disc”).As far as 2 MPEG streams with different bitrates, yes you can.

Due to the amount of compression required to convert a DV-AVI signal to an MPEG-2 signal, some image degradation is to be expected.
The quality of the source image has a major bearing on this as does the bitrate of the final project.
DV-AVI footage (what you’re editing with) is approx. 13.5 GB/hr.
A DVD can only hold 4.3 GB so a 1 hr. DVD program is compressing the signal approx. 3:1.
If it’s a 2 hr. show, this ratio doubles. -
Analog video (VHS and 8/HI8) do not offer a scene split option.
You have two options.
One is to drop the entire clip on the timeline. Split it up as desired (use the S key for this) and delete the unwanted clips. Drag clips over top of each other to get a basic dissolve. Add transitions over top of these dissolves.
The other is to open the clip up in the trimer. From here, you can create subclips and add them to the timeline later) or just select the desired segments (one at a time) and drag them to the timeline for further editing.
