Do you have anywhere you could put up a few of these frames (full size please) for us to look at?

Tom, is your Preview Window set to Best/Full when capturing a frame? This is done to get the highest quality snapshot.
Also, right-click in the Preview window and set it to “Simulate Device Aspect Ratio”.
Let me know if that helps.

Assuming you want to stay in widescreen mode, your project properties should be set the same as your source video (1.4568 pal dv widescreen 720x576x24).
1.0926 pal dv width720 height480 is for 4:3 video, not widescreen.

Your render settings should reflect this as well (PAL DV Widescreen).

The easiest way (so you don’t delete the video as well) is to enable “Ignore Event Grouping” (should be a toolbar icon).
Delete the audio and then disable this option again.

I find that the easiest way is to simply drop the b-roll clip over top of the a-roll clip.
If the b-roll clip has audio, you’ll need to delete it but that’s easy to do.
If you want it to fade in/out rather than cut, place it on a new track over the exisiting one and do a fade in/out on it.

Gleb, I think you’ll find several articles on Glenn Chan’s site to be of interest, particularly the color space ones.

Roger, as I said earlier, make your images twice your project size. For HD, that would be 2880 x 2160.
If there’s no need for zooming, leave them at project size.

Another hint is to save them in PNG format after the conversion.
This is the preferred format for Vegas and you’ll find that a timeline of large PNGs is easier on your computer than the same timeline full of JPEGs.

“Vegas is for putting together video-clips.”

As is every other video editor I’ve ever worked with 🙂

First of all, why do want to do “destructive” editing?
The philosophy of most NLEs is to leave the original clips intact.
That gives you the option to do whatever you want to the original clip knowing that, no matter what you do, you still have the original clip as a fail-safe backup.

It’s only when you render the completed project to another format that you’re doing a “destructive” edit as, once it’s been edited and rendered, you can’t undo any operation you performed on it.
It’s also destructive as Edward described above (trim, render new, delete original).

You also have the option of only capturing the clips you know you’re going to use on the project.

I’ve done 10 min. videos where I’ve shot over 2 hr. of material. I then sit down, screen all the footage and only capture what I need for the project.
