Jane, is there a reason you’re not rendering to HD?
I checked their site and FilmFreeway recommends the following settings. I’d experiment with Handbrake (it’s free and there are lots of “how to use” tutorials out there) to get the best results at such a low bitrate.What format do you recommend for video uploads?
FilmFreeway accepts all major video formats in full quality HD up to 10 GB. We transcode videos for playback compatibility and performance and recommend that you use settings close to our output settings:Maximum video bitrate: 2200 Kbps, H.264, mp4
Audio: 128 Kbps, AAC, 2 channel stereo
Aspect ratio preserved; maximum video height of 720 pixels -
Usually in the same folder where you saved your project.

I can only repeat what John said. I watched both videos on my 28″ monitor at 1080p and they both looked good to me. I also downloaded both, dropped them on my Vegas timeline and stepped through them frame by frame. Once again, no differences that stood out to me.

I render out PNG sequences in After Effects all the time and they play very nicely with Vegas Pro so no worries there.
Mind you, I only do 1080p, not 4K so a workflow test is definitely in order.
+1 to what John says about XAVC. -
Do a search on this forum for “firewire legacy driver” (without the quotes). This has been discussed in relation to Windows 7 & 8 so I’m sure it’s still applicable.

Rob, this has been bugging me as I can’t offer any explanation for your issues.
Does the video play back ok from the original source tape to an external monitor?
Can you post a short clip of the problem portion so that we can try it on our system or can you post a screen shot of what “severe banding” looks like?

It sounds like your raw footage was a real mixture of frame rates.
Was each clip transferred at its native frame rate or was everything converted to 29.97?
Are the problem ones the oddball frame rate clips? -
Mpeg for SD is usually a delivery format (i.e. DVD).
If you can, have them transferred again but this time do it to DV-AVI as that’s a much better format to use when editing.
