What you say Peter sounds right but I don’t know. As you say maybe some one can chime In and let us know.24 p is sounding like a good starting point as it is available as a PAL setting and experiment with shutter . Who do I know with a 5D that happens to be near time square or similar American cacophony of neon , flouro and LEDs ?

Quite right
Thanks again for taking the time.

Thanks Peter
Unfortunately if the 1/60 shutter at 25p doesn’t fix it ,I dont see what choice I have other than to shoot 30p or 60p.Some say 60 p is better for converting ,Is that right?

I am about do do a series around the world on a 5Dmk2 and a 7D and I was interested if anyone has any opinions on frame rates and shutter speeds. The series is to be delivered in PAL and therefore I was going to shoot it at 25p -1/50.While this will work fine for Britain and other PAL countries I know I will run into problems in Time Square for example with Flicker from flouro and neon.Has any one had experience with the 5d in this situation, where on a video camera I could always correct it with Clear scan or simply change shutter speed.I have heard changing the shutter to a 1/60 in 25p does not completely eliminate flicker. In which case the alternative would be to shoot it at 30p or 60p and convert when we go back to post. Not having a post background, I am not sure how difficult this is. I can shoot interviews with DC lighting so I can still shoot 25p to avoid pitch adjustment.Am I making this too complicated by switching between the frame rates for post or should I shoot every thing in the USA in 30p 60p and just convert the whole lot.
I am sure some editors out there will have some good advice for me.
Thanks

Olivia it seemed to be an issue with the fotodiox adapter I was using to mount my nikkor lens. While there is nothing wrong with the adapter ,infact it’s great ,but the info contacts on the adapter seemed to be affecting the camera’s exposure even in full manual modes.I simply covered the contacts on the adapter with some fine cellotape and problem was solved. I have gone to adapters with no info contacts and have not had any issues since. Hope this is helpful

Hi Charlie. It should be fine.I have a mini HDMI from camera to HDMI with DVI connector to go into monitor DVI port.Select DVI on front panel and hit Live View on 5D and presto you have pics.Hit info button on 5D twice and it resizes the image and hides the info.I have not used the TV Logic with a 7D so I cant be sure of your problem but it works fine with 5D MK2.DP6 small HD is a great monitor as well.Nice to have both.

I use the 7″ TV Logic with the DVI input and it looks the best I have seen of all the monitors we tested.Had a friend who just bought 2 Marshalls and returned them when we put them alongside the TV Logic. He then bought 2 TV Logics. This monitor seems to be the best for focus pulling the 5D even at the 480 res .Curios to see if the Small HD DP6 stacks up against the TV logic as I think its smaller size is more practical for some situations especially with its custom zoom for 5D and retaining the 1080 or 720 size.

Hey Phil.I have been running 4 x32g Sandisk Extreme 3 cards pretty much every other day in my 5d mk2 and have not had a single problem ,touch wood.32g cards are the perfect size I think, for the very reason you stated in your previous posts.I usually run 2 5d’s at once and i dont think they have ever been short of media on most normal shoots.Hope we can catch up soon?

Lovely pictures Michael. Love to get those PP settings you said you would post to those who are interested.I am about to shoot some music stuff with my Nano which I have not had too much chance to play with yet.I am required to do some 60fps slo mo in 720-25p and as I gather from previous posts that this must come from the SxS cards and cannot be done through the Nano .Is this right because you mentioned the editor may have used the overcranked files from the Nano.Would really love your input on how to get best slo-mo results from my EX-3 ,Nano combination in a 25p world.
Again ,congrats on such great pictures from the Ex-3

It seems as though Sony have have just undone all the the great breakthrough work they have done with this this amazing EX-3 camera.Doesn’t matter how good this camera is ,if you cant do a simple zoom for a client then they say lets use something else.I was in that boat yesterday.Client loves the pictures but asked for the 709 because it will zoom from a 2shot to a single smoothly.Surely Sony will acknowledge this when they see all their hard work go down the drain over a simple lens fault. Long Live the EX-3 but please sort out this otherwise faultless lens.
