  • Thanks for responding, Dan. I’m not having any crash issues or anything. It’s actually running fine. It just seems to play video less smoothly (i.e. at a much lower framerate) than Color. It the latest 17″ MacBook Pro, 2.3GHz i7, 8GB RAM, and video running off a second SATA internal hard drive at 7200RPM (I replaced the optical drive with a hard drive). Play the same video through Color results in much better performance.

You’re using too many steps to reconform a Color project. Do it this way:

    1. Save the Color project and close Color. Make a copy of your Color project as a backup. I always do this when reconforming in case something screwy happens (which can happen).
    2. Make edit changes in the original FCP sequence you sent to Color and export FCP sequence to XML.
    3. Open Color project and select Reconform in the menu.
    4. Point to the XML you exported. Done.

Switch to Kona. They have the same feature available with no sign that they’ll suddenly disable it. This was an important feature that was a major selling point for me personally. Very disappointed with Blackmagic Design.

So I looked into this some more. The AJA Kona LHi has no issue with using the extended desktop feature with Snow Leopard. This means the reason you state for why the feature was removed for Snow Leopard has no bearing. It would be great if you brought the feature back very soon. Otherwise it looks like I will need to sell my Multibridge Pro 2 and buy a Kona LHi. And then I will question buying future BMD products in the future because of the risk of suddenly losing features I paid for.

The ability to turn on and off Extended Desktop was there before. It was in the Blackmagic Design pane in System Preferences. All you had to do was restart the computer. Not a big deal. I had no issue with restarting when about to use Color or any other non-Extended DesktopNow-compatible software. Now I have to find another solution to replace my Multibridge Pro 2 unless this gets resolved very soon.

It really makes no sense at all why the feature was removed. And since a major feature was removed I feel like I should get a partial refund on my investment.

I’m very disappointed this feature is gone as well. I have a dual 30″ display and was using the Multibridge Pro 2 to give me a third display on a plasma. Who cares about the Color issue. The simple fix for me was to turn off the Extended Desktop and restart, then load Color, do my thing, then go back to Extended Desktop. Looks like I’ll have to find different hardware now. Goodbye BMD.

I believe this problem has been resolved for me. I had a freeze frame in the sequence and when I removed the freeze frame the problem went away. This tip was given to me by someone on the Apple forum here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2128358&start=15&tstart=0. Hopefully this will help some of you.

September 28, 2009 at 6:14 am in reply to: Question – Problem with Sequence Getting Renamed

I am having a similar issue. I have a project that is a new FCP7 project. When I insert or overwrite a clip into the timeline the sequence gets renamed to the name of that clip. Sequence was duplicated from another sequence, but I tried creating a new sequence then copying and pasting the contents of the other sequence to the new sequence but get the same results. It is very annoying.

Running FCP7 on 10.5.8. I used to have FCP6 on this computer. I manually removed 6 and did a fresh install of 7.

May 9, 2009 at 6:16 pm in reply to: FCP 6.0.5 constantly crashing

I’ve done some testing. I have no problems jumping around the timeline, scrubbing, or playing in other projects. I even went back to an older sequence in this same project and have no problems. It appears to be an issue with Magic Bullet Looks. I noticed my upgrade from 1.0 to 1.2 seemed to not take full effect (Looks Builder still showed 1.03). I completely removed all Red Giant plugins and then reinstalled Looks. It runs much quicker now, but still crashes.

Thanks for all the help. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I’ve repaired permissions and as far as I can tell my system is optimized, but maybe you could give me some specifics? Also, what do you mean by “re-build directories”? Thanks.
