Good question, I do not think you can solve your problem in CS2.

The best help I can give you is to copy your index form InDesign, paste this into Excel, select and drag the 2nd column to the 4th, then delete the empty 2nd column. Yu can now paste thsi back into InDesign. Excel uses tabs to go to a next colum and return to start a new row.

I too have had trouble with getting the front and backside to align perfectly. The problem may not be software related, but printer related, and you can design & print print a ruler that is 8 1/2″ x 11″, and then review the results on the printed page, you may find that printing slips 1/64″.

If not, try making a PDF and printing double sided using Auto rotate & center. The cetnering of the print might help enough or atleast split the difference.

Not sure what your question is asking. If you are looking for how to trap in InDesign in comparison to Quark you will want to pay attention to these options:

edit >> preferences >> appearance of black
    window >> attributes
window >> output >> trap presets

    to preview your results
    window >> output >> sperations

You hit it right on the nose, I can’t beleive that I did that. THANKS.

  • Draw your shape adn fill with a color. Thenuse object >> make gradient mesh. Select gradient mesh points with the hollow arrow tool, and you can change their color individually or reporition them.

  • You really just chnaeg all the fills & strokes to black and send this to a vinyl cutter machine with some frosted vinyl loaded. Saem technique if you are actually using the more expensive method of ethcing the glass.

August 11, 2006 at 9:42 pm in reply to: Quark to InDesign

Thanks to everyone for your reply and special thanks to Erica for offering to convert for me. I rebuilt some simple name tent cards, adn sent the annual reports to the printer in Quark (they gave em a proof back with the Adobe Garamond looking good, so I have no need to convert anything at thsi time).

They may be using a mac which may have solved the Adobe Garamond going to courier problem. Sure is nice being on the other end not working in printing anymore and sticking someone else with the problems I usually had to fix.

I may take up Erica’s offer to convert a file for me in the future in an emergency if the need comes up, but am switching everything over to InDesign. The files here at my new job are so bad from the previous media manager (over 15 fonts used in a doc, stylized bold & italics, inconsistent postiioning, no master pages), that I really don’t want to use anything unless I ultimately have to. They had a liscence for InDesgin but were notusing the software (Thanks Adobe for inventing the Creative Suite).

Hopefully InDesign CS3 will update their conversion to handle quark 5-7 files.

Yes with rgb images. Using and rgb image change
image >> mode >> indexed color >> check the use exact box.
Then go to image>> mode >> color table >> save a .act file

With a new image open go to the flyout menu for the swatches palette
Load Swatches >> switch files of type to .act >> choose your .act file

You can drag copy from one document to another.

Open the document you want to copy from.
    Create a new document.
Select the pages from you original in you pages palette you wish to extract.
Drag these pages top the new document.

The image looks like something drawn with a shape tool while holding down the ~tilde key.

I would try to reset the preferences, as your CS2 preferences might be corrupt. DO you have any plug ins installed?
