Illustrator – yes in the align palette check align to artboard
Photoshop – No offical command, but YES you can do this! Select atleast one floating layer and your background layer. Click on the align icons up in the options bar. Will align to your background layer.
This is really the only usefulness I have found for a background layer to exist in photoshop. Out of curiosity, does anyone else have any other usage for Photoshop to have a background layer???

Yeah I have been asking Adobe for years to add a full color option to define brush, not just grayscale. Would open up an entire feature similar to image hose in painter or scatter brush in illustrator.
Well there is an simple way to do your project in photoshop and that is by alt drag to dragging you diamond layer to make a copy. You can use your path as a template to visually do this. You could later rotate a few of your gems so it does not look like the same one.

Vince is right, my memory slippd on that one. LZW is a 100% a non-lossless compression. You should only have to do a save as and uncheck LZW, and your file will be back to original quality.

You can do a Photoshop Save AS save as back to Tiff and remove the LZW , and your image most likley will still print very good. Many RIPS hang if LZW is on the file, so they may fail to print the file. LZW is a lossy compression though, so you cannot get the quality back you lost.
There is a filter reduce noise in phothsop which is uspposed to get rif of jpeg artifact, though I have nto had good results with it, you may want to try it on you un LZWed file. Median may also help.
PSD is a format that has compresison, but is not lossy, I use it all the time as many Adobe apps InDesign/After Effects/Illustrator let you place PSD.

Duratrans is a photographic process you should be sending RGB files directly to the Duratrans printer (EG Lambda). RGB will have a much wider gamut, and just wait till you see the blues. Most likely 300 dpi is the best quality for most Duratrans printers (eg Lambda).
For many types of printing such as lithography, you need to convert your files to CMYK for printing. Do you color balancing/corrections/sharpening in RGB though. Photographic processes such as Duratrans/slides are the exception which print from RGB files.
I have a feeling you are going to be very happy after you get your file back printed from RGB. I am actually not that far from Indianapolis so will be listening for a yahoooo!

Are you able to SAVE AS to a gif?
Next reset your phtohsop preferences by immediately after booting photoshop holding down Shift/Ctrl/Alt and saying yes to the alert for resetting preferences.

1) go to http://www.google.com, click on images tab and search for perfume bottle.
2) find an image you like of a straight on shot, click on it to get full size, copy to clipboardYou can start here if you choose to draw one freehand
3)paste into illustrator, and use bezier pen tool to outline the right half of bottle
4)Select your bezier path and choose effect >> 3D Revolve
