    thanks jeremy for your response

I am working mostly in 1080p pro res hq

I don’t have much desk space and also have a little 9″ CRT SD monitor

I know I really need to read up on the Aja card
can I output to 2 monitors?

also interestingly I posted this to Matrox forum and got this……

you’ll be a happy camper with the MXO2. it just works, and the quality is excellent. all the audio outs is also very handy to have just to drive stereo to a bunch of VTR’s, or to do 5.1 monitoring without having to get any extra adapters like SDI audio extractors. I think you’ll like just have a metal box with real connectors on it instead of the AJA fan out cable. you also gain HDMI I/O the kona doesn’t have which is great for working with all the gear that has those connections now. of course the HDMI out can be adjusted to get better color matching on the LCD being driven by it.

MXO2 also supports closed captioning better then anyone else too right now – both for capture and export.

as for MAX h.264 acceleration, yes that to just works. and works really fast. you will get very spoiled having it, especially if you encode to h.264 based formats everyday. its a quick 15-30 minutes saved everyday ! if you do multiple h.264 encodes, the time savings add up even more. for the few hundred extra, you’ll make it back quick enough to not worry about it.

I don’t think you’ll miss the AJA card at all.

    hi bob
thanks for getting back to me, I don’t always get a reply
I sometimes think I am asking stupid questions

here is the link to your great article
    https://magazine.creativecow.net/article/the-importance-of-monitor-calibration
I have been lazy on the calibration side of things

now I have adjusted the studio have room

your idea sounds great i am going to check now UK costs

REPLY – easy answer. with the Dell, you have a DVI port, to hook up to your second DVI output of your MAC (so you can have all the real estate you want for your MAC), AND you have analog Y Pb Pr inputs, s you can hookup your Kona Out Y Pb Pr to it, and instantly switch to the full screen HD output of the Kona. And at $475, if you don’t do this RIGHT NOW, just kill yourself, becuase if this is not cheap enough, then nothing is cheap enough.

would I simply switch in FCP?
and I forgot to mention I have a Sony HDV deck where does that fit in?

also this probably is the stupid questions
when I first dabbled in HD [pre Pro Res] i was told to buy Kona LHe
I have used for previewing on 9″ CRT but not much else.

do I really need this card? I was considering selling
or by buying Dell monitor completes my system?

also the new 24″ Apple display how does that rate with the Dell?

    thanks
    mike

‘wave wrap’ works a little but it is the ‘repeat edges’ option that worked so well in AE 5.

    thanks mike

    thanks Wayne
    I think I am slowly understanding 🙂
we intend to capture HDV material off our sony camera, we also have DV material that we want to work with

I think we will copy a set up like yours. probably edit in ProRes422

I guess we need to buy a hd10AVA box or will something like IO HD box do something similar?

what advantages wil I get from IO HD box?
