hi walter thanks for quick response
||||||||||| [mike faulkner] “- out of the sony deck to the Aja card via component
|||||||||||- in to the card [from the sony deck] via composite”
|||||||||||That sound redundant. You only need to make one connection to the AJA card, I would recommend Component.
Forgot to mention sony deck is component out only,
but composite in and out
what do you recommend
||||||||||| [mike faulkner] “- in the the monitor via composite [from the sony deck]”
||||||||||| No, I would go Component from the AJA Card to the monitor. You want to monitor your editing system.
||||||||||| You could also connect directly to the monitor via Composite from the deck so you could monitor that signal when making a recording.
okay
||||||||||| [mike faulkner] ”
||||||||||| but what about via firewire? use this as well or not at all”
||||||||||| Not unless you plan to capture in the HDV or DV codec. It’s not needed otherwise.
I will occasionally use DV codec, so I guess I can hook the deck up with both Firewire and component.
how does the deck and computer tell the difference
I am guessing in FCP set ups?
