You’re right, it is extremely low. Also, the volume level that the manual recommends that you record at on the meters is too low as well “one mark to the right of 20” or something like that. Get some headphones that have their own volume adjustment on them.

I’m unfamiliar with those kinds of lights. When you say DIY from a 2ft piece, do you mean 2 foot piece of metal mesh? Wouldn’t a metal mesh create a bunch of mesh looking shadows on the subject? I could use the clip on shop light again, but the issue was the dimmer creating noise. What kind of bulb and wattage could I use in the shop light so that I could just turn it on and not have to worry about modulating the amount of light?

Are there any other programs besides GEAR that can read a VIDEO_TS folder for a dual layer title and output DDP DVD-R discs for layer 0 and layer 1?

I’m not sure what you mean by “automatically” as the frame rate is simply an option among many in the Menu. As far as the technical bits about the 30fps, I’m not sure. Vegas shows it as 29.97 interlaced when you click the match properties to media button.

Yes I am using the XA10, as well as a Vixia M500 too. I did several tests earlier and before I even dropped the footage into the computer, I could see on the LCD screen that the 60i was noticeably darker and less vibrant than the PF30. Why, I have no idea; just reporting my discovery 🙂

I think PF30 is the way to go, it looks much more vibrant and bright compared to the 60i (I did some tests this morning)

I just a couple of brief tests comparing the PF30 vs the 60i. The PF30 was noticeably more vibrant and bright compared with the 60i footage. Not sure why the big difference, but the PF30 is definitely the way to go. Is there a reason for the obvious difference? Everything else stayed the same, lights, camera position, etc..

    From that thread:

“Actually, after playing with it for a bit, setting the project properties to “interlaced” vs “progressive” is a lot sharper in the vegas preview, and rendering out as “interlaced” as Sony AVC also plays back much sharper with Windows Media Player… confusing though. What the Hell is that PF30 mode on the Canon cameras supposed to do?”

What (the other) John was trying to determine in that thread is whether one should shoot in PF30 or 60i with the Canon XA10 (for utlimately viewing on a computer screen, not a TV) and then after that question is answered, what should the project properties be set to,, in order to achieve the sharpest picture. I noticed that PF30 doesn’t look entirely clear in the Vegas preview (set to best and full size) too….

This seems to conflict with what was said in this thread:
