but let’s say you want to modify the program a year from now – having used the HDV footage as DVCPROHD – you cannot batch digitize off the original HDV tapes with any accuracy – no?

I am no expert, but trying to figure out peoples’ workflows as I get ready to hopefully get a Kona FCP system.

Once in a while I see obvious website images used in newspaper articles. One in particular I recall was something about the Muppets – they used a really crappy gif of Kermit. It would have been better to go with nothing.
I hear ya with the “use what’s on the website” line. Some people just don’t get it.

Speaking of this whole issue – about 6 months ago I cut a 20 minute program. Some of the material came from DV, but some other stuff came from DVCPRO, which does not have a firewire – so I went s-video into my DV camera to get it into the computer. Thus there is no TC for that material. If I trim the project I guess it will make me new clips for the stuff I used from that material? I have kept all that raw video in the computer ever since.

I think I’ll try trimming a smaller project first.

I agree the workflow takes some getting used to.

For example in the Media 100, let’s say I have 6 source tapes. I digitize them all at low-res (at 20 kb/frame you can fit a boatload of video on a drive), make my selects on a timeline, drag the new clips to an empty bin, do my offline edit, then batch digitize the program at hi-res.

You can essentially do that in Premiere except for the low-res offline – hey every software is different. But the effect controls and multiple tracks more than makeup for the adjustments in workflow.

Thanks to you both for the handy info. I do have a 2nd drive. It is just sitting at the bottom of the case in the front, and there is room at the back under the PCI slots.

Walter you lucky bastard – I love Good Eats – well put together show. The HD will look awesome – when did they start shooting these in HD?

For the Hockey – maybe you could shoot each player either on the ice or static smiling/laughing against a background or green screen with motion background – then show a player with some stats during time outs or whenever is appropriate.

What if you film some highlights from the local youth league – edit those together into little 10 second pieces. Locals always like that.

For a while I was sitting on a yoga ball. Reduces the leaning forward, but obviously you have no arm support. But it reminds you to keep your back straight.

I have only sat in an Aeron chair once or twice, but that supposedly makes a difference.

There is another type of highly adjustable task chair which costs about 400 clams, trying to remember the name of it, but it is a good one.

As for dress – I wear kakhis, jeans or cargo pants and a sportshirt or polo type shirt 99% of the time. The suits come out for trade shows or shoots at conferences. We used to wear ties when clients came to the office, but now business casual is ok. Visits to a client is sport coat and tie, unless it is Friday, you can often lose the tie.

The best attire is for shoots in the operating room – those scrubs are like wearing pajamas – unless you get the tyvek jump suit – pure sweat.

I agree with the others, unless you work in a strict corporate setting where everyone wears a suit, or ad agency suit=loot, wear what you are comfy in.

Or do what I do – wear what the boss wears.
