Not sure about rights etc, but editing ANY Charlestown Chiefs stuff into a bunch of quick little clips is always a favorite. That and the Mackenzie brothers. As far as “Noise Meters – How Loud Can You Go” stuff, just have fun with it. I’d go with retro-Atari lookin’ stuff! Hee hee… shoot miniDV footage of your TV while playing SEGA Genesis Hockey.
When the NHL strike started, the cable carrier here in Buffalo actually got away with airing the video feed from two guys playing SEGA Genesis NHL’97 on a “regularly scheduled” game night. No lie – the public LOVED it.

Locally here in Atlanta, they show a lot of Saturday Night Live skits, especially old Chris Farley stuff. And at some point every game, they show the “Braveheart” clip with Mel Gibson on the horse about to lead the men to battle. Obviously, rights are an issue with those.

September 27, 2005 at 11:42 pmWalter you lucky bastard – I love Good Eats – well put together show. The HD will look awesome – when did they start shooting these in HD?
For the Hockey – maybe you could shoot each player either on the ice or static smiling/laughing against a background or green screen with motion background – then show a player with some stats during time outs or whenever is appropriate.
What if you film some highlights from the local youth league – edit those together into little 10 second pieces. Locals always like that.

Thanks Mike! Truth be told, the AVID Editor, Ginger Cassell has the real fun putting together the SD show and then I conform it for HD on my FCP system. Yes, it does look awesome in HD with all the extra color and depth we get in the HD shows and all the extra room I get for graphics.
But I DO get to do all the new Monty Python style animations so those are a complete hoot. Alton already warned me we’re gonna get to do a really big one in the next month or so and it sounds like a whole lot of fun. He’s a super guy and I’m very very lucky to be involved with the show.
We started shooting with the Varicam this past spring to start the 9th season. We did a full HD test last November by shooting an episode with the Varicam, but only delivering it to the network in SD. I took all the tapes and basically recut the entire show from scratch just to see how the show looked and to see what would and would not work.
