We use Premiere 6.5 a lot for batch export – don’t know why they removed it in the Pro versions. It’s not like Adobe makes a batch video encoding program.

perhaps Adobe should change their specs – they still say P4 1.9 ghz and 512 MB ram is ok for PPro 2.0.

I tried this method today – I get the audio but the video shows black except for about 50 pixels at the bottom.
However I can export to AVI with no problem, which is what I want to work with anyways.

I often use Premiere 6.5’s media encoder with exported AVI’s from PPro – mainly because of the convenient batch utility. Too bad they eliminated that on the newer editions.

Too bad non-quicktime apps cannot do reference movies.

That makes sense. Both devices in question are AC powered.
Odd that we used them both for years without fail.

The failures coincided with moving the computer to another location.
We thought perhaps there was an electrical fluctuation, but an electrician confirmed we are receiving 1.21 jigowatts as to be expected 🙂

So it’s an unfortunate coincidence. But good to hear we are not alone.

Odd that aside from the COW, I have seen little from manufacturers about the firewire power dangers, especially the i-link problem.

on the non Canopus unit, I can generate color bars no problem, but still no luck getting the computer to see it.

The canopus unit, aside from a visible flicker on screen when powering the unit on or off, I cannot get color bars nor get the computer to recognize it. I have tried this on 2 other machines.

We ordered a new ADVC-110, and will replace the firewire card in the machine in question, and cross our fingers.

find a studio which has a broadcast deck with a good TBC – that might help.
If all else fails, try sending it to video inderchange in Maine – they are a little backed up but they do a lot of video restoration.

what were Adobe thinking? Ah yes, the non-professional consumer.
