My apologies for posting so much on this. I don’t want to take up peoples time or send them in the wrong direction and this will be it.
I shot 720pn 24 at 60 frames and unchecked the advanced pulldown box and did that again with the advanced pulldown checked and there is no difference It seems Noah your advice was right on and that FCP takes care of itself on ingest. -
Well I tried that and it seems if i shoot 720p24 with a frame rate of 60 and checking and unchecking the advanced pulldown box did nothing. Both ways imported as 59.94. I had to use the frame rate coverter to get it into a 23.98 timelime without rendering and slow motion. I am confused and will end my input and hopefully someone can set me straight.

I just realized that if there is no solution to this would it be better to shoot 1080pa and 720p instead of 720pn then leave the advanced pulldown box checked all the time. Seems that would eliminate the issue of checking or unchecking the box because both would need advanced pulldown removal to work in a 23.98 timeline.
If anyone is curious why I’m asking is because I want to use slow motion in a 1080pa project.

There is a check box in 5.14 that removes advanced pulldown. Since the 720pn footage does not need pull down for the 23.98 timeline I would uncheck that box. I would check it for the 1080pa. so when you say it gets sorted out on ingest am I missing something?

yes but at the point of ingest how would I know which clips need to have advanced pulldown checked and which don’t if the camera isn’t available.
Lets say i dumped 20 cards onto harddrives on location each card has an average of 30 clips on it in mixed recording formats. I get back home and need to import into FCP by unwrapping the MXF’s. Which need advanced pulldown and which do not if shooting in the formats in my previous post in a 23.98 timeline?
If I didn’t take notes when i was shooting what does one do?

Hey Gary. I’ve been following these post and your vagueness is so fustrating. Not meaning to offend but some of us aren’t as knowledgable and a little hand holding might help. Coming on and offering a snippet here a snippet there of info when someone can’t solve a problem seems a waste and it also seems to aggravate you. How about being a little more patient and clearer. I still don’t know how to solve the problem with 1080i/24PA fotage in FCP.

Thanks again Frank for your time and knowledge. I am somewhat confused by the fact that 99.9 and 100.1 did not work as well for me as 101%. Maybe I’m not seeing it but it looks in sync to me at 101. Even though its working I still want to know why this is.

Frank I do not know how to thank you. You have fixed the problem although the one difference was I modified the audio to 101%. I noticed that the audio seemed to lag when a character sniffled at 99.9 so I went the other direction and that seemed to solve the problem.
Do you know where i can read about this 1% issue anywhere? Or about film transfer to video issues. If not can you tell me anymore details about this especially when you say it is a normal process as i had the audio transfered at a reputable sound place and no one mentioned this issue.Again thanks so much for sending me in the right direction.
