First thing I tried was deleting preferences.
Could you check your folders for me and see how your Livefonts folder sits in relation to the Motion contents???

I had a problem shooting to a card and one of the clips wasn’t recognised in Clip Browser. I resorted to XDCAM Transfer and exported the clip as a quicktime for FCP which I normally do anyway. However, I usually run the footage straight out of the camera to a DVD recorder with timecode so others can log the uncut footage and I also of course back up the BPAV folders as the original source. So I need to get the 7.5gb quicktime file back to the BPAV folder.
I have followed the instructions for exporting from FCP but get an error message after FCP 7.0.3 has done its bit and XDCAM Exporter takes over: “Please check volume to which you are exporting is not locked or full. [It is neither] Condition failure- os.sputn() failed in write_to()” This is exporting to either a card or hard drive.
I have also tried copying in Clip Browser but as suggested, it won’t copy anything over 4gb and also won’t let me split the clip.

They do have lots of DVD players, that’s not the problem.
Our people want a one-disc serves all purposes solution re movie clips and documents. I’ve shot in a number of the countries in question and the IT set up is often rudimentary. That rules out internet downloads from a server of the films and means we must target the lowest common denominator.
So Windows-Media data rates playing off a CD on a rickety system? You reckon Flash? Which version?

Haha. No one in this game is using a non-DVD playing computer, of course.
But, this is a project for a UN-linked human rights group and it will be used in a lot of developing world centres and my colleagues are adamant CDs in PCs (not Macs) are the only option.
I’ve been fooling around with Flash with mixed results and who knows which version users might have. So, leaning towards Windows Media v8. But if I go down this road and try at least to have SD-sized picture, will there be pauses etc in the playing? What should the data rate be, etc?
Perhaps I should switch over to a Cow-Windows-friendly forum now?

I am a one-man band and have always had to turn off the connection on my MBP to run FCP at the same time as on my Mac Pro (when I’m using the MBP to render out something while I work on the Mac pro).
The problem here is copying all the media over or plugging an external drive in to the the second machine.
So I find the idea of Little Snitch appealing. I’ve installed it but something’s not working and I still get the alert that FCP is not allowed to run with the same serial number on two machines.

Good on you for checking. Now I’ve got to figure out why the avis won’t play in any of my apps. What plugin is required for QT to play avis? Perhaps I don’t have this? As in my original message, I would’ve thought Perian would handle this.

Your EX TVC looks great but I agree, Peter, that you need to view footage on full scale monitor to make proper judgement.
My big question is what lenses did you use? I’ve been shooting docos and TVCs with the EX1 and Letus Elite but am struggling with a little bit of vignetting, especially in low light. Mostly I shoot with a couple of zooms but wondering about hiring Zeiss lenses for upcoming TVC.

I bought a couple of DVD set top recorders a couple of years for just this purpose.
Connecting analog output from camera to recorder, make sure camera screen info is on when camera is in Media mode, insert card with BPAV files, select first clip in multi-clips window, hit record on DVD burner, press play on camera. Camera will play all contents of card.
I’m burning DVDs of newly shot footage for client with timecode as I write. The screen info is ugly but it does give clip number and tc.
The reason I was browsing forum was to check I could reload BPAV files back onto card for burning to DVD. During the course of the shoot I laid them off to a couple of drives so I could reuse the card. Now I need it back and I recall reading this was possible.

Hmmm, MXO2 is appealing but I am not sure I’d get that much use with it other than, say, for monitoring out of FCP (alongside a Blackmagic Intensity card).
What about the MXO Mini?
BTW if I did invest in an MXO2 and used it while shooting on set to capture footage pre-compression, what perceptible advantages would I notice? I have a couple of mid-budget TVCs coming up but nothing in them requires heavy effects work and therefore a 4:2:2 space. But they would be output to Digi Betacam for broadcast.

I need little persuasion about the MXO2’s capabilities but availability right now and specific amount of use I’ll get out of it are two separate questions.
Which brings me back to the firewire question: did you capture to the three Mac Pros with fw only? What were the settings on both camera and in FCP?
