There’s an earlier thread about this. Seems to have happened to a few people including myself. All I did was delete the preferences for batch monitor (and I think) compressor.

Thanks. I found some info on the support page of Flip4Mac that allowed me to find and delete various preference and support files in order to clean reinstall the software, so all good. In the meantime, I’ve discovered that the pre-existing version (?!?) of the software was installed in my recent absence and have dealt with this.

I’ve reentered the serial number several times but it won’t accept it.

So I’ve uninstalled it, reinstalled the download, gone back to preferences and it says:

Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD – not activated
Santa Claus
[a number that’s not mine]

Try deleting preferences which can be found in your home directory>library>preferences>apple.com.Batchmonitor.plist then reboot.

Coming straight out of FCP 5. I think the 3gp encoder comes with it because I can’t recall installing it separately.

I tried encoding with other programs but the results were no better than from FCP.

No DVD players will do HD? So if I make an HD Video TS file in DSP4 I can only play back out of the Apple DVD player?

I was possibly misled by the ‘1080 HD ready’ tag on some of the DVD players. What do that and ‘HDMI connection’ refer to then?

And returning to the initial question, is there an optimum sequence setting in FCP for the kind of project I’m doing?

I shot a short drama on the Varicam at 25fps and a local bloke here in Sydney said the procedure to get a 25fps PAL program was to capture at 59.94 (this is with firewire), frame rate convert to 24, output as tiff sequence of stills and reimport at 25fps. Or use another program like Combustion for final conversion 24 to 25.

I haven’t yet got to this stage because the DVC PRO HD FRC plug in will not work for me. After applying it in FCPHD it goes through the movie file parked on an external drive and when it is 100% complete the spooling tape symbol appears followed by the beach ball and then …. nothing, time to force quit. Any ideas?

Is there any way I can check the footage to see if it imported properly complete with right flags? BTW at 59.94fps it plays fine on time line and can be edited. It was captured from the 1200 deck via firewire.

Firewire is voodoo? That could make sense because my colleague ended up resorting to a blackmagic card to capture this same footage during an earlier incarnation of the same project.

What does this say then about the firewire revolution?

As a general aside, looking at the associated mad confusion of posts about HD and HDV acquisition and post-production systems, I’m pessimistic about being able to make clear-sighted decisions on formats and cameras to use.

Returning to my predicament, I’m cutting the footage in a 60fps environment. Once I finish my offline, is there any way I can output the film at 25fps? Short of following the 2-3 pattern and cutting out the duplicated frames, I guess not.

Thanks, I read through info and it all accords with how footage was captured. And dvcprohdcomponents is installed.

Yet FRC won’t work. Could that be because varicam was set to 25fps? (Workpath had been worked out and tested by colleague: footage is digitised as 720p60, cut, then FRC does its work converting footage to 24fps. This footage is then conformed to edl then shifted back to 25fps either as exported image sequence or in combustion.)

Is there any way footage can be checked to see if flags are there? I’m wondering if FRC is checking footage but not finding any flags.
