Thanks for the reply, I will definitely give them a try. I hope I can find some Kino Flo for rent. Hedler are excellent for what they do, at least the new ones I have, but I haven’t tried many others. Kino Flo is definitely interesting.

Sounds right to me. I have a G4 Powerbook and it was going to take a long time for a few minutes video. It’s a new format and it also seems to be very sophisticated. I suppose in future we are going to see hardware for that kind for work. I remember when encoding MPEG2 was a very long and difficult task.

Yes I sent apple a note on the issue. There are actually two problems with using slideshow for that: you can’t delete pictures, and it shows a random order of pictures. Obviously the feature s only there for entertainment purposes. So for now, the only solution is to make sure IPhoto run as quick as possible, or use a Windows machine (or emulator) to view pictures, and OS X for everything else.

Yes, I noticed that Tiger supports PSD files very well. So between slideshow and Iphoto (properly configured) one has a very solid solution on Tiger. Iphoto on my Powerbook is now extremely fast even with thousands and thousands of high res images. The only thing I wish Apple did, is to let me erase photos from Slideshow. I think Apple thought of slideshow as a presentation featue, but it could be used for excellent browsing, because you can also put all the images side by side. Erasing and Rotate would make it perfect.

thanks, great and useful article! I’m glad someone understands my concern and replies to my constructive criticism without calling me traitor and accusing me of provoking 🙂

I think the best thing would be to avoid stress and bring the computer to a good technician or contact Apple. Looking around for tips can be very time consuming, and most people know very little.

I only have 1 Gb in my Powerbook, still I don’ think I’ve ever closed photoshop, if not for a quick restart. If you look at the activity monitor, open applications do not consume significant resources, unless, of course, you keep a number of documents open within that application.

I was amazed. They offered a 5.02 update for IPhoto. None of the serious issued are solved. Are they doing it on purpose or are they not taking the IPhoto issue seriously? Basically instead of fixing problems, they are offering improved performance with G3. Are they listening to their clients at all?

Yes but that’s no match against Window’s XP handling of icons and images. You open a folder, and just by clicking once on the icon you get the full screen image. And it’s fast! You can browse an illimited number of images very fast. OS X didn’t implement any such feature yet and in that respect it’s still back in the first half of the 1990’s. Not good. I haven’t played with Tiger yet, but one Quicktime on their site seems to show a similar functionality in their new system. I really hope so.

yes. maybe the system will finally be able to view graphic files without some stupid preview application.
