Hi Sum,
There is no dynamic trimming on FCPX. I would love to see this added as I find that trimming that way I get a much more natural feel for pacing on the edit. A couple work arounds I have found is to play through the edit and then stop at the point you want to place the edit. From there I can blade and delete, or use a top/tail edit to push or pull the edit point.
Another option is to double click the edit point to enter precision edit mode. Play the edit point and again stop where you want to place the edit, now click on the footage you want to trim where the stopped playhead is. This will trim it to the playhead and exit precision edit mode. Unfortunately this method only works in the primary storyline. You can not enter precision edit mode on connected clips or secondary story lines.

December 24, 2012 at 9:13 pm in reply to: Avid Media Composer 6.5’s drastic need to continue to update….Can we add to the list a better handling of alpha channel information. Every time I apply an effect to a layer with a matte and is effects the background as well it frustrates the hell out of me. It’s time to fix this Avid!!!

I have had a 250 for about a year as well and it works great for green screen stuff. The added bonus is that you won’t have to deal with second source sound with the 250, that alone would push me in the direction of the 250.

December 15, 2012 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Bug for Surround Sound Audio??? Or is it just me that’s going crazy!?Hey Adam,
So I tried this on my end and had the same thing happen, one of the clips lost the pan mode. However I also found a way where it didn’t. Instead of expanding the component audio I left it collapsed. I turned off the unwanted tracks in the inspector for the clip that was on the timeline and then set the pan mode to dialogue. This seemed to fix the issue of the pan mode changing. It also has the added benefit of not having to expand the audio component to see the pan mode, just click on the clip and look at the inspector.
On a side note I discovered another issue while testing this. Once I set the pan mode to “Dialogue” I loose the ability to copy and paste attributes. Since I never work in surround I had never noticed this before.

December 14, 2012 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Any updates to audio keyframe work in new versions? No ability to record audio keyframes yet, this is a big one on my wishlist. And as far as I can tell no way to select multiple audio keyframes for deletion. This would be a good one to have not just for deleting, but moving multiple keyframes as well.
Speaking of audio I am really hoping for a Soudtrack Pro replacement. Maybe integration with the next version of logic?

That’s what I was afraid of. Time to head off to Apple to submit another feature request.
Thanks for the reply,

Not seeing this on my end. Used both the Final Cut and Logic limiter and they worked as advertised. Do you by chance have a Compressor on the track that is limiting as well?

November 11, 2012 at 6:26 pm in reply to: HPX 250 delay in switching to playback mode.Update on this…
Before sending to Panasonic I decided to reinstall the latest firmware update. I did this as it didn’t seem to be a hardware issue with the switch. After reinstalling the update all is fine with the camera. I can now switch to playback mode as soon as the card loads.
