Is it possible to someone to copy XDCAM materials into a portable Firewire HDD and then I use that HDD to import into my FCP system ?

This is possible with the use of the PDZK-P1 Transfer App from Sony, as long as you keep the entire file structure of the ProDisk in tact when you copy the files over. However, this method adds an extra step to the transfer process, and in my opinion is truly a waste of time, especially if you already have access to either an XDCAM camera or deck. I had to use this copy method for my first project due to our XDCAM equipment being on loan, which had to be returned quickly.

The Transfer App will allow you to “add” a folder, but will only properly read that folder if the original file structure was maintained.

I’ve personally done this type of transfer before. You don’t need to “see” both machines during this transfer cycle. Your G5 will just be recognized as an external FireWire drive.

    paulos,

The “change all” button in the “Get Info” window is exactly what you use to change the default application.
