    What GPU do you have?

Any chance you could use the Set Matte effect?

  • Oh, Sapphire effects! I’ve heard good things. ☺ (Well, about the tools – not the pricing.)

You might consider precomping your depth pass. Then, inside the precomp, apply the Tri-Tone effect with white on both ends and black in the middle (or vice-versa).

  • What effect are you using in AE? ZBlur is a node in Nuke, but I don’t know of an After Effects effect called that.

  • Creating the comp by dragging the Illustrator file to the button makes a new composition that matches the artwork. If you create a new composition and then start dropping Illustrator files in, why, it could have almost ANY specification. Dimensions, pixel aspect ratios, and all kinds of things could be different.

Glad you found an easy solution though. 🙂

  • I’m afraid you’re going to have to redo some stuff. BUT only for the section where you need to be zoomed in!. You need to scale it up with the continuously rasterize checked, precompose (moving all attributes), and then do puppet pin animations on the resulting, now larger, comp.

    Sorry. 🙁

The effect you are seeing is called moiré. Now, it may be tricky to search for how to create that because most people are trying to get rid of it! However, if you do a Google search for moiré patterns, you may find some stuff.

Be aware that, depending on how this is being played back, it might not look right.

  • What, exact, version number of AE are you using? Is it 14.1.0, 14.0.1, 13.7, 11.0.4?
What are your render settings? How are you rendering (through AME, Dynamic Link, or AE’s render queue?
To what location are you rendering?
What footage do you have in your project?
What are your system specs? (OS, processor, RAM, GPU, etc.)
