  • The amount of person hours and render time to answer your first question varies so wildly from project to project that there isn’t really a rough estimate that would be remotely useful. Some projects take weeks to build and others are done in an hour or two.

You could use CC Cylinder to make the feather bend a bit (you just have make the feather layer significantly wider than the feather so that it only wraps around a small part of the cylinder).

You could switch your renderer from classic to the Cinema 4D renderer and then you have some layer bending options. (If you have an older NVIDIA card, you could try the ray-traced renderer instead as it might be faster.)

  • [Max Douglas] “How do I do this?? Does anyone have good advice??

Are they masking in between comps? Are they using a master comp with several pre-comps and just overlaying them with one camera in 3d space?”

Either or both – all depending on the needs of that particular effect and how they’re working on that project.

[Max Douglas] “Are they scaling down comps inside of a main comp and just linking them together?”

    Probably.

  • Make your source precomp longer and then just offset the time of its layer in each of the comps that use it.

You could use another instance of Particular that produces bright, feathered circles and then use the Set Matte effect on it and use the smoky particular layer as the source (make sure to choose to use the layer masks and effects and not just the layer source.)

  • It has to be one path only or you will have to paste multiple paths in and offset the position of the resulting keyframes.

Your comps are just using the classic renderer, right? Double-check that they haven’t changed to ray-traced by accident.
What, exact, version of CC 2017?
