February 26, 2014 at 2:22 pm in reply to: Query regarding your experience with modern PPTX v Keynote for blended screen showI have done a lot of widescreen shows as both the spyder op and as a watchout op. I always push for keynote, I think it is far more stable then ppt. That being said new keynote is terrible for shows. Is your op planning on over scanning the graphics outside the pixel space and only using the center portion of the slides or is the deck going to be true 3840?

What resolution is your comp, also are you running in 64bit mode in the os. If you are having ram issues try to flush the cache prior to rendering and check you preferences to make sure you have enough ram allocated to ae.

August 4, 2013 at 12:25 pm in reply to: Correct workflow for dealing with around 100 rotoscoped video layers? In the piece you linked to I would have used layer masks for all the aircraft. Rotoscoping is very intensive on both your time and and your machine. How are you trying to render, full Animation codec will be a massive file and most likely choke. Try running each as a precomp after you rotoscope it. Also make sure when you start rendering you clear your ram cache. This will impact your render ability since rotoscope uses a lot of ram.

Good morning. This will be much easier to discuss in email or on the phone. I have several years of experience doing this exact type of show. If you would like to get in touch with me to discuss I would be happy to help you. Mjsisko@gmail.com

Just a though. Apple has a QuickTime codec download that includes all of the prores codecs. I would give that a try, I have the exact same machine and no issues with output to any apple codecs.

June 23, 2013 at 12:32 pm in reply to: AE Rendering decreasing memory/speed over time, think its due to Ext HD. Need a better way.Is the drive FireWire 400 or 800? That will affect speed greatly. If you only have 4gb of ram you will never use more then 75% give or take as the os reserves/ uses one on its own. When your rendering the amount of ram used and time remaining are not based on a true metric. If you comp has a ton of particle animation in the beginning then you will start using a lot of ram and a longer length. If halfway thru the animation gets simple the CPU/GPU will take over and the render time will change. I have seen the same thing you are, it depends on what your rendering. But a slow drive will not help. Also adding ram to your machine would be helpful.
Sent with ipad mini, p,ease pardon any mistakes.

Are you still having this issue, how did you resolve it? What were you using for playback?

Only use 75ohm BNC Barrels (they often have a purple ring on them) You can extend HD-SDI that far but a single cable with a reclocking DA would be best. Even with multiple cables you should either be using a reclocking DA or a signal extender. AJA makes several great pieces to do this as well as Extron (HDSDI-101) 100m is pushing the limits of most cables and rental cables should not be used more then 75m. In my experience, I will not run SDI longer then 125ft without some type of resync or reclock.
