November 7, 2009 at 10:52 pm in reply to: VariCam HPX-3700 Trade-Up Offer ($30,000) Ending Soon – What will the resell value be afterwards?Where the Betacams had a shelve life of 5 years, We have determined that any new tape less based camera will be 24 months. We have 24 months to cover the costs. Then sell them off at 40% and buy the next line. Where we have saved is in the maintenance department. No moving parts on the 3700’s or the 300’s. The PDW -800’S a few. but nothing like the F-900’s belts head cleaning. So far on the 3700’s we are ahead so far.
To your answer no idea. But I could answer this in 2011.

You are right I am not talking about that. The unit is a small adapter that changes the mounts from 1/3 to 2/3 support. It does change the focal setting of the lens, that part is correct. But do the math its your money. Pick up a 2/3 wide lens. 4.5 or 5mm on the wide side. You can use it on all 2/3 chip cameras. For your clients that require Avc Intra you can use the 300 and the this wide lens and a long or standard, lens. it works great and it also gives you options and that is what keeps your clients happy. I own a few 3700’s for high end clients Hpx-500 for the eng guys, interviews, etc. and the 300’s for docs and industrials.
I have more cameras then lenses at this point I can use the Canon HD 10×4.5 as the wide for the 3700 and the 500 . and use it as a long for the 300. If they are traveling far away I give them the 18x that comes with the hpx-300 camera. But they all seem to like the 10x. They should its 18k.Be honest you want the most return on your investment no matter what it is. Fujinon has then and they are not too much $$$. If you have more questions just send a email or go to the Camera One Tech website and I can call you.

Do what most camera operators are doing at this time, since no one knows what the next format will be, and it will never be just one again, Rent the gear there are plenty of rental companies that have the gear, no out of pocket money and you can haggle with the rental houses for deals. No risk from you. All the cameras you mentioned make nice pictures , but it all depends on where the producer is doing the post.

I currently have and rent the HPX-300,I also have a HPX-500. I wanted to be able to use both lenses on the 300. Fujinon make a mount to take on 2/3 (B4 mount) glass. Yes you lose a little on the wide, but this simplifies everything. You can use one matte box ring, one zoom control.
I wanted to be able to buy as few pieces and have more options for the clients. The 300 comes with the 18x 4.3 long and wide. For certain projects this works and certain budgets. I have a 500 that I have a 22x lens. I can use this as a very long lens on the 300, or as a standard lens on the 500. Same zoom control, same follow focus pitch gear, etc.
I have a few HPX-3700’s as well. If you would like more info please just send a email.Michael@cameraonetechnologies.ca

The only mount That I have used and tested is for Ziess Digital (B4 mount ) This mount is built by Fujinon. You lose alittle on the sped of the lens and on the wide end.

This looks great, We are currently the only camera rental company in British Columbia that rents this camera. Its amazing what Panasonic has done with this system.
We have done a few workshops with this camera along side the 3700 and the 500. When I tell them the cost of the 300 they are very suprised. Its a hidden gem that people have realy not looked at too much. We hear about other cameras coming, but for the price and for whats out their this camera came do many things, We are working on a underwater housing for this camera at the moment.

August 2, 2009 at 3:50 pm in reply to: But is a HPX3700 Varicam “shovel ready?” for making money?3700 ready ??? Yes we are using them to replace F-900’s in the MOW market and green screen to replace reds. Not that the red has any issues just cheapier to rent and post is easier.

We have purchased 2 3700’s and traded in our F-900’s ( they were not working at all) no a huge suprise. We have also purchased a PDW-800.
