  • I think buried in this post:

    https://www.fcp.co/hardware-and-software/1359-long-term-testing-apple-s-new-mac-pro-and-final-cut-pro-10-1

is a demo where they were using IP sharing over thunderbolt to share media between two machines. Think it was an MBP to a new Mac pro tube which was in turn connected to a Promise Raid. Don’t know if you can do this with iMacs but worth investigation.

The directory is called “Final Cut Pro Backups” by default it lives in the user – movies folder.

    That’s weird – I’m sure I tried that!

    But cool – Thanks!

Search an entire library by keyword etc – not just one event at a time. That would be super powerful.

    Fix the performance issues.

It was a bit of guess, but I couldn’t work out what it might be writing to so early on in the process and it seemed a logical option.

Be interesting to know if it holds water.

Try downloading the plugin from the canon website. import media and point it at the card_xx folder and it should work fine.

Of course the massive downside of the new structure – in its current form – is that you cannot search the whole library at once for a string or keyword, you can only search one event at the time. For FCP X to be really useful a news scenairo you would need to do exactly that. that would be very powerful.

Its a shame because I always thought FCP X with the previous event/project structure was perfect for a news organisation.

Er. FCP X has paid for itself many times over already because of increased productivity. I can give the client a better product quicker and that’s already got me a couple of extra clients.

If Apple pull it and don’t develop it I’ll still use it over Pre Pro or Avid until it falls over or if something better comes along. If that happens in less than five years I’ll be impressed.

To be fair as a one man shop my economics are different to a post house.

I’ll double check – I know it was the Sheffield make up looks but I think there were a couple of extra freebie trial ones as well.
