[peter christensen] “on another note gentlemen, is it possible to copy colour corrected attributes from flip to clip
Again thanks in advance”Yep, select the clip with the effects (any effect not just CC) and cmd c and then past effects (alt+cmd+v).
You can save a colour correction as a preset in the CC which is on the bottom left of the inspector window when in CC.

Yes but as you say, its for MOVING a project, not making a backup which is what the questioner was asking about.
Personally I think this is FCP X one weak area as its to easy to mess up and not well documented on how to recover from.

It depends if you want to use the date added metadata. If your not bothered do this:
1 Create an event in FCP X.
2 Quit FCP X
3 Open XDcam browser.
4 Go into the pref menu, click the FCP tab and select the original media folder of the event you created as the destination.
5 In the explorer window select the clips on the disc and then (under Version 2) go clip – import to FCP.
Version 1.xx its called “Register for Final cut” and is in the file menu6 When its done open FCP X and the material should be in there.
If you do want to use the data added metadata
In step 4, select a temporary data location.
Then step 6B) import material into the event.

First of all you have to understand that event’s and projects are two different things.
Your media is stored in the event and the timelines & sequences in the project folder.
One thing I have found is that if you have copied the media to the event folder, life gets a lot easier. If you have, you can save the event file (the current version file that live in the [FCPX event name] folder) and then rebuild it if you need to by creating a new event file, dumping the media into a newly created event and then over-writing the newly created event folder.
If you haven’t done this and not imported the media to the event file then FCP X creates an alias in the event folder, which is easily broken. In this case the best thing to do is use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner to duplicate the disc with your event on.
The best way to copy a project folder is simply to duplicate to another disc, I personally use a USB thumbnail drive from Lexar that permanently lives in the computer. When you duplicate un tick include render files. This will then copy the project file which you could then archive to a disk image, drop-box etc.

Apparently you can do this by creating a Motion 5 effect. Google it and you’re find loads of people who have written ones.

[Christian Schumacher] “Mr. Cook is in charge for a long time now, many years before Mr. Jobs passed away last year.”
Maybe on a day to day business level but from everything I’ve read, even until very close to his death Steve Jobs was still actively involved in the vision and direction of the business.
And lets remember he wasn’t always right. As I understand it he was actively against the App store and it took lots of lobbying from board members to bring him round to it.
Take a moment to think where would the iPhone be without the App Store.

Andreas,
No offence taken.
I wasn’t aware the option was available in the same way in FCP 7!
Certainly when I’ve done this before in 7 it didn’t seem as quick.

Sorry I got it the wrong way round!
Yes of course, mirroring should in theory protect you from a hardware based disk failure. But yes your right the mirror will be the same so if the file does get corrupted so it won’t protect you from that.
Cor its a nightmare isn’t it! Comeback autosave..

Hi Ben,
Is this for one of the new Local TV channels in the UK?
What people are asking is what are you going to play it out from? i.e what format is your transmission suite working in?
FCP X can delivery Quicktime mov files which can go directly to some servers but if you want to play out to tape etc that’s a different ball game.
FCP X in this environment could work well as its very cheap and runs on cheapish computers (iMac’s etc).
For US cousins: The Local TV channels in the UK are the brain chilld of our culture secretary James Hunt, have extremely small (even by UK standards) of coverage and viewers and thus very low budgets and running costs.
