It depends if you want to use the date added metadata. If your not bothered do this:

1 Create an event in FCP X.

    2 Quit FCP X

    3 Open XDcam browser.

4 Go into the pref menu, click the FCP tab and select the original media folder of the event you created as the destination.

5 In the explorer window select the clips on the disc and then (under Version 2) go clip – import to FCP.
Version 1.xx its called “Register for Final cut” and is in the file menu

6 When its done open FCP X and the material should be in there.

If you do want to use the data added metadata

In step 4, select a temporary data location.

Then step 6B) import material into the event.

Also make sure you’ve done the Pro Apps update which lets FCPX see all the various XDCAM flavors.

Any idea if this works under Lion.

Looked on the site and could only see Snow Leopard.

Also am I right in thinking this is the route to get Canon MXF files into FCPX?

The latest version of Sony’s XDCAM Transfer works under Lion. I use it to MOV the footage from the cards and then open the files in FCPX.

Not sure about Canon MXF… give it a try!

    Thanks for that Ian.

Once I remember my Sony log in I’ll give it try and report back for the edification all those about to pick up a C300.
