This type of thing happens all the time on DVD-r masters. I don’t understand why so many replicators ask for them as their preferred method. Thumb drives are so cheap and are as reliable as hd think about using them. You can still ask for them back but no big deal to add the cost into the project so if you don’t get them back no big deal.

1080i is upper field. Just change your field dominance to upper for the m2v and all will be good. Yeah 30p will almost always get output as 60i to the tv.
Also most people find that you get better quality if you down convert to sd pro res and then do the m2v pass. But remember to keep it upper frame first.

or buy a $100 external hard drive, install Snow Leopard on it, install FCS2 and you are good. Apple did not cheat you, you decided to do an upgrade that was not compatible with your software. Software and equipment move forward. If you must have an old version of software, or just don’t want to pay for an upgrade then you need to make sure you are staying compatible before doing anything. There are several ways to get you where you need to be. Sending $100 on a HD is the cheapest way. I have boot HD for this very reason. If someone gives me a FCP 6 job and I need to keep it at that version, I plug in boot and and we are all good to go.

If you have FCS2 there should be no reason you cannot reinstall it.
I just don’t see what you are complaining about. If the software works for you reinstall, if you are having a problem reinstalling figure out why. You may still be able to fine a FCS3 upgrade on ebay or something like that, just make sure you get the original install disc and serial number.
DVDSP is still the best authoring software for the Mac, nothing even close. If you need this tool in your business do what you have to to get it up and running.
Apple is a for profit company, while I don’t agree with some of their discussions lately I refuse to keep bitching about it. As soon as their tools no longer work for me I will move on. I will find a way. If I cannot afford to update software when it is needed or upgrade systems to run needed upgrades then I will get out of the business. I don’t want to go to a auto mechanic that says he cannot afford to be shelling out $ for new tools and software just to keep up to date with what is needed by the new cars he services.
Keeping useful equipment and software for as long as they get the job done is smart, replacing them when they don’t is wisdom.

Where have you been for the past 5 or so years. DVDSP has not been sold as a stand alone product since the Final CUt Studio came out. FCS 3 will run fine on any mac with on intel processor, all mbp have intels in them.

There is a chance the DVD itself is bad. If it is hanging up at the same place in different apps I would say it is that for sure.
Mpeg streamclip is probably the best free app out there. Cinematize is what I use a lot but it is not free. The main thing is you want to be ripping to either elementary streams m2v and separate audio file if don’t need to edit the ripped video. If you need to edit rip as a qt dv or prores codec.
If no software works with ripping you can record the DVD if you have a dv camera or capture card on a computer. Also try another DVD if you can find one.

There are a lot of reasons a disc will not play. If your footage is 29.97 then yes it is NTSC. All computers can play either NTSC or PAL and most PAL DVDs can play NTSC disc. You cannot bring PAL footage into a NTSC project in dvdsp or vice versa.
Why it doesn’t play. You have to give a lot more info.

There is NO setting for you to change in dvdsp. It is what it is. If it is just being cropped it is just an overscan deal, which is why there is still action safe. If is distorting or zooming it is a player or TV setup problem. You can try it on a hundred TVs and players but there is nothing you can do in dvdsp or another DVD authoring software.

Not trying to be smart but this is normally answered in the apps spec sheet. The lower end Bluray apps can do specific things but not full spec authoring. If you can looking for something specific this is a good place to ask.

There is no setting when authoring to fix faulty DVD player/tv setup. I would assume all festivals have there gear setup correctly. If they don’t there is nothing you can do about it. Other than hand delivering and setup it up for eat one of them.
