I have both, the Io and a Kona3. To me the issue is how may computers do you need to capture on or if you have a laptop. I got the Io to do ETT and capture offsite and I was tired of packing up my Quad G5. So now I just take my MBP and the Io to capture or master, works great. I also started doing HD to SD downconverts from Kona3 to Io.

If I only had one computer I would probably with the pci card, if I needed more flexibility the Io is great. If you go with the Io you can add Fireward ports to your desktop, they are cheap. Also DVCProHD can be captured over Firewire. The good thing is they both work great.

    Io gives you flexibility
Card gives you HD (also acceleration DVCProHD, RT and HDV)

BTW I was going to get a Blackmagic card before I decided to get the Kona3, so glad I did, a much better card. The LH is a great card also if you don’t need upconvert.

Protection is good but my question would be will they perform well enough to pull 6-8 streams of DVCProHD, like I can using RAID 0, Don’t know of anyone that can afford RAID 1 in the video world, especially us small video houses.

I really like the idea of some of the features of Caldigit but I don’t understand why putting in 8 750GB drives vs 8 500 GB drives should cost $2000 extra (looking at the HD444) seems like they are taking advantage of their closed system.

I appreciate the push to CalDigit and I’m reading up on it but back to my original post, between hard drive manufactures – Seagate, Hitachi, Maxtor, WD (there top of the line drives) is there any that people want had a lot of problems with, Maxtor and $45 cheaper than Seagate in the 500GB Sata II 16MB cache flavor. I want to stay away from anything that people have bad experiences with.

how much speed do you lose if you set them up in protected mode vs performance mode?

Shane, what would the CalDigit get me for twice the money of a Sonnet P500 and 750GB Seagate drives? I can put that together for under $2200. Since I already have the card.

David, thanks for the reminder about the 1 TB drives, I normally buy second to the top capacity drives to get the best value, so many the 750’s will drop by mid Feb. And yes I’m look at top of the line drives. MaXline or Barracuda.

Can you give a little more info on the screen – was it LED? Lcd projection?

To answer the other reply, I have no idea that is what I’m asking, I have no projector experience at all, I want to purpose something like what apple does for their keynote speaches, just not quite so big. Maybe 16’x12′ or a little bigger.

my main question would be is there anyone reading this that rents this and could give a ball park quote for projector and screen for 2 weeks in July.

Better to start out with Hey I can do … in Avid, doesn’t seem to be working well in FCP any ideas?

Personally I’m waiting for iAir or even better, iCivilGovernment.

320×180 is correct for 16:9 in square pixels.

Are you using the compressor setting “H264 for iPod?”

How are you encoding the file now?

    A possible workaround.

I had problems with some spanned clips on my firestore and was able to get them into FCP after use P2 Logger
    https://www.imagineproducts.com/P2log.htm

The demo will only work on the first clip in the folder so ou may have to creat a new folder and just bring in one file at a time.
