To clime in for that Dodge Dart comment. I had a ’69 Dart in High School that totally kicked a$$. Small block 340, fastest small block around. (Springsteen’s Glory Days plays in the background)

Backing up your complete HD is really what you want to do in your situation as Jeremy describes but backup up the actual install DVDs is not a bad idea. I do this also and I just use Toast’s Copy feature, it copies the DVD to the HD then to a blank DVD.

There is a 16:9 lens adapter that you could rent and it would give you a true 16:9 so you don’t take the quality hit.

To make 4;3 footage fit in 16;9 timeline you need to enlarge the footage 133%, Not really a different shooting letterbox or not since the LB is just blocking out what will be cropped out in the conversion to 16:9.

There is also a crop feature in Compressor. This way you won’t have a black band around the sides.

[xtrmn8ngangl] “so is it a bad thing that the IO HD does not capture uncompressed HD”

Only if you need to do Uncompressed HD. If you do, this is not for you. But ProRes is meant to bridge the gap between Uncompressed and DVCProHD. It is full raster and less compressed plus it can be 10-bit. Any compression is a compromise but this is a far less one. The mean benefit is this is an external box and it can be used with a laptop. So you get portability and adds ProRes capture to a lot more systems (G5s).

What keeps a small shop like mine from even considering uncompressed HD is the storage that would be needed to do multicam edits (up to 8 streams) right now I have been using DVCProHD but next concert will be done with ProRes.

I just I would do a test, but the timecode may not match.

Don’t use M100 but I don’t know how easier it would be, 24pA definitely had firewire in mind when developed the use of it on a camera.

Then try to do it in Cinema Tools over at page 211 for instruction.

But I think you are going to have to recapture the footage if it was captured at 23.98.

September 14, 2007 at 7:27 pm in reply to: eSATA vs SATA

eSATA is the cable connection type. Make sure everything is SATA II (or 300) – Card, drives, and enclosure if you go this route.

What is new is stuff like the Fusion D800RAID which are Mutlilane ports these are more expensive and you need matching cards but they are the faster systems. Seems like you get the same speeds at RAID 5 and with SATA II at RAID 0.

If I where doing Uncompressed multi cam I would get the fastest set up. The keywords are multilane or SAS connectors if you want to research them. There are several post on in this and other forums.
