Main thing is to keep it in 29.97 interlace and the camera has video vs. film cam setting.

Cinematize will do this, it is not free but does a great job. But it does not work with copy protected DVDs.

I’d like something very stable as the press risers I shoot on shake a lot.
If your platform is shaking so is your tripod and camera are shaking. I have the a Manfrotto w/ the 501 head, was about $400, for holding up the camera in a lock down shot it is fine, if I want to move the camera a lot, it just doesn’t cut it. I went cheap and regret it. I end up renting a tripod a lot of times. I can afford $60 when I need a “real” tripod, I think $1000-1200 tripod w/ head is the lowest you should go.
Lightweight and sturdy is doable, but it is not cheap – it is called carbon fiber.

Wow, good timing on the post, I have been capturing a bunch of BetaSP tapes with the AJA Io and I have gotten this exact message and the deck keeps rolling, continue through the dialog boxes and it starts to recapture and all is fine.

There is no difference in quality between QT and P2 setting, both give you DVCProHD just a different wrapper.
Have you viewed the files out from FCP?

P2 setting is MXF files
This is more of a what works best for you workflow.
Now that version 4 of the firestore software makes a ref movie or the quicktime files, they are easier to handle long clips.
My question for you would be to you want to log your footage in a tradition manner, so you name unique names and description on transfer. Also wanting to trim and view the footage before getting it into FCP. – Useful for documentary and film type work. Then P2 is better.
If you film long clips and you just want to bring in the entire clip and start working on it then – concert footage then Quicktime maybe best.
One thing to remember is always make a backup copy of the footage. The p2 method more or less force you to do this, while you can (but shouldn’t) bypass it with the QT method.

Compressor is where i’m seeing major improvements with Leopard. About 2x faster. I need to but in both OX HDs and boot back and forth and get some firm numbers. Maybe I do this the end of the week.

Natress has a cadence filter that may shed some light on your problem, it is one of his free filters. Run it on the footage captured at 29.97. see if there is a change at the problem spot.

This is really something that Soundtrack Pro does extremely well. You can round trip your audio with “send to Soundtrack Pro”
While it to not as convenient as you may like, the software to do it is given to you.
