Once you buy the app from the app store you can download all the media from within the app. That is the way Garageband does the video lessons.
IMO, DVDSP is dead as far as we will never see another upgrade to it. But then again there is really nothing to upgrade (other then REMOVING some features, namely HD DVD)

But for the small one guy operation you will only have to buy one copy and you can install it on upto five systems as long as they all have the same iTune log on. So your laptop and desktop should run the app at the same time. The move to App store for big apps will be interesting, I can see both the pros and the cons but in the end it is not that big of a deal, it is just a comfort (or lack of comfort) thing that will probably go away pretty quickly.

Because they (hollywood producers) are trying to get the best quality at lower bitrates, for that you do need a good VBR encoder. I didn’t say that CBR always beats VBR, I’m only talking about high bit rate CBR (6+Mbps) and I’m talking about Compressor.Everyone can do what works for them. I know that I give this recommendation a lot and a lot of people get better results. That is all that I care about. The guy at BitVice knows his stuff, I’m not an engineer but I know I like the results I get and I like that I get them is a fraction of the time and they look better.

I bet if you go after enough people someone will just right a check. I don’t see how anyone can get a patent on motion menus with is just a mini movie with a propose. Maybe I should get a patent on “Intro movies”

Bob – that is actually something that I’m looking at for live streaming, have you seen the quality at sub 2000Kb bit rates for 720p.

I would double check the HDV codec, that maybe just a format if you are delivering the show on a tape. HDV is one of the lower quality codecs.
But I would use ProRes (not LT) if you are delivering in HD. But right now FCP cannot work with H264 footage, which is what the Canon DSLRs give you. So this is not a recommendation it is a most do. I would also want to give the TV station the same codec as what I edited with, if they can accept it.

@ Jeff, at you sure that is a DVD compliant stream. Nothing on their website mentions the ability to go to a DVD stream. There are a lot of variations of mpeg2 but only a specific one can be used with DVDs.

With compress you can set up a virtual cluster and that should give you better encoding times. Also you have more control over your encoding settings. If all you are putting on a DVD is 25 you can use a CBR encoding at 7 Mbps and it will be you better quality and take about 15 minutes to encode.
As far as your source, are you making the files H264 or is that just what you are receiving? If you are making them that is a mistake, a bad mistake. H264 should never be used in a dvd workflow if you have control over it.
