iChat would be a simple solution also. Streaming a single camera to a single person is not that big of a deal, it is putting a video out for anyone to see that takes some doing.

24p will have scrobing unless you are supper slow. If you look up panning tables from the film guys you will see pan rates that will boggle the mind on have slow they are telling you to go. But start looking closely at blockbuster movies, all those fly overs have some strobing.

If it is the entire frame you may have an electrical hum going on, you running on AC or battery power. Are you feeding sound via XLR from a mixer?

I just ordered this lens, I think it is a good compromise. The IS is huge for video, the range is great, the glass is great, to go down to a 2.8 I would have to give something else up. Also I want to upgrade to the 7D eventually, with that camera and this lens I can shoot in the rain, that there is nothing better than that! This is one great lens that will probably be on my camera 75% of the time. If I need faster I have old Nikon primes that I can use.

This would be my second choice. Faster, less zoom but still has the IS, about the same price.

Glass is not cheap and it is probably more important that the camera.

Nope, 7D and T2i have the same settings for video, they both have a 1280×720 60p (and 50p), 1080p only does up to 30p (and 25 and 24p).

I have tried a little 720p and was not liking it at all. gravel, leaves and bark wiggle a ton, if you have any patterns in the scene watch out.

But 30p gives you that cool Lucy Lu look when played back at 24p

For me it is more than the extra 2/3 stop, it is the focusing ring itself. There is nothing wrong with the 50 1.8 in autofocus but it is almost impossible for me to manual focus, take my hand off the ring and not move it. Also if you every get a follow focus it will work better.

This is a great portraite lens for our type of cameras, it is like having an really expensive 85 1.4 lens. For weddings and other low light this lens is just great.

Once again your goals are too wide. You cannot you clips in a demo reel that are the wrong pixel aspect ratio. If this is just for you, friends and family then your are fine with going with what you like but I would never use that to show off work for potential clients.

If you like that sequence then you just to to use Compressor to convert all your DV footage to that or less you will be rendering at every step.

ANd what have you thought of, can you tell us what you are doing. And I’m assuming you mean CUT and not switch, when you switch as it plays the changes do not stick, cutting is what most people want to do.

You are trying something that not reasonable.

First thing you need to tell us is what is the end deliverable? DVD? BluRay? HD/SD broadcast?

If your main footage is 3:2 (which is Broadcast 4:3) you don’t have anamorphic footage, to go to anamorphic you have to scale the footage up about 33%, not an easy thing to do and keep quality. Then using a HD sequence is even worse. Converting 4:3 to 16:9 without scaling and then cropping top and bottom will just distort the image. Fat people and oblong circles.

If that is true you need to spend some $, You need hardware conversion to even have a chance at quality. Even then you better have great source footage that is tack on sharp focus and exposure.

Once you decide what your finished product needs to be you need to choice the sequence setting that makes sense. then all the footage needs to be converted to that if you do not want to render all the time.
