Apologies. Perhaps I am stupid after all,
It’s been a while since I used resolve and what I am actually trying to do is split the clip not actually cut a clip out) so ctrl \ is what I needed not ctrl x.

Well it’s my home pc so yeah that shouldn’t be an issue and never has been in the past.
There is only one user account on the PC and that’s mine 🙂
I also tried right click ‘run as administrator’ – same result as always.
I have been trying various things and attempted to install previous versions of resolve (for which I still have the install files) and they are not working either.
So it is a general Resolve issue, not specifically a version 17.4 issue.
Hopefully that will help when it comes to narrowing down possible causes and remedies.

I tried with 17.4.1 executable – no luck.
Backed up database and uninstalled Resolve and all other BlackMagic products.
Tried a fresh install of 17.4.1 but I get the SAME error and cannot install it at all.
So now I don’t even has resolve on my system, which makes me unhappy.
Maybe someone can look at their install and see if there is an installation log file please?

Indeed.
Companies trademark various aspects of their designs – usually those things which make it extremely distinctive – consider the Aston Martin grille shape for example.
So they do have legal recourse.
Is your client a business which offers mechanical etc works on that particular brand of car?
If so, manufacturers can be aggressive in defending their intellectual property as they don’t want competitors (to the dealership) gaining any commercial advantage.
That being said, whether a legal challenge is likely or not is largely beside the point.
The fact it could cause issues means it’s worth avoiding now rather than having to deal with the inconvenience / hassle once it becomes an established brand logo associated with your client’s business. In which your client would need to start from scratch again with hos branding.

Restore project archive doesn’t work – it cant find any to restore.
I did try “recuva” but it only restored 1/3 of the files it found and none of those was a drp file Weird.
I DID find my folder which (having unhidden files) appears to have db files in it (when navigating via explorer) but these do NOT show up in resolve.
