If you had selected the original master clips from the sequence, and batch imported those, then you wouldn’t have to re-edit anything as the sequence would just link automatically.

In the screenshot you posted, I would need to see the column “Source File” in order to advise on proper relink settings. For example, one may have .mov and the other not, so I would check the “ignore extension”.

Batch importing a sequence will not work, but batch importing into the master clips that made up the sequence will. And make sure none of the clips have been consolidated as an import will always retime an import to fit the clip duration. Legacy import does not work well for these scenarios as Pat says as it does not observe the START and END timecodes of the clip being imported into.

So you can always put the sequence into its own bin, from the “set display” selection from the bin menu display check “show reference clips”. This will now show all the clips used in your sequence. Sort by clip type and move master clips to another new bin. From that bin, select all clips and do a batch import. If the clips have not moved since their initial import, the paths may still be valid. If not, you need to match them up. It should find all the clips from a given folder. Then, follow Pat’s guidance for resolution setting.

I would AMA link your camera orignals, highlight all the clips and the seqence, right click the sequence then relink, and select “relink to selected”. You may need to tweak other settings in the relink dialog box, but that is how you will do it.

    You can consider:

    1. Using EditReady to make a .mov with a different codec such as ProRes. AMA link to that. If in 8.3, you can go to source settings on that clip(s) and set it to project rate rather than clip rate creating a frame for frame slomo.

    2. Drastic Technologies makes an AMA plug-in that supports XAVC-S and a single codec plug-in will run you $99

    3. Create a new clip with Avid Resolve setting timing to playback rate before creating new clip.

XAVC-S has been a point of frustration for a while now with MC owners… and users end up between the cracks with Avid pointing to the camera manufacturer to support, while the manufacturer decides what it wants to support or not. Meanwhile, other NLE’s just support it.

The bigger consideration is that much of that SD signal based infrastructure is no longer that relevant. What production types and delivery requirements are you getting now for the production work that you do? I have not had a deck of any kind for about 5 years in my work as it has all gone file based. I get the occasional DVD request, but mostly my deliveries are all file based as well.

I don’t know how quickly you will see Avid provide that functionality but in the meantime, it should be pretty straightforward to create a python script or XSLT that would take in an EDL with CDL values and export a CDL.xml file.

  • That workflow is something I use for last ditch effort when nothing else works. For many projects now, when exporting out of Resolve, on the edit page, highlight sequence and export AAD (not new AAF!!!). This puts all the new media links back into the original sequence which still has all the layers and FX on it. Move the rendered MXF media to an Avid MediaFiles folder and import AAF. It relink to media automatically. The only caveat in this scenario is to roundtrip a V only sequence, not audio.

June 29, 2015 at 12:00 pm in reply to: Linking Scripts

Are the clips in the Avid MediaFiles folder or are they AMA linked? If managed by Avid in the Avid MediaFiles folder, then just passing the project with the lined script should relink just like a bin does.

In theory yes, but if you’re going to go back to the R3D files and export what you want for the grade, there is no need for the ProRes proxy. Just make native DNxHD rather than ProRes, and the workflow remains the way you outlined.
