When you look at the Tape and Source File columns for each of the clips is there a common value between them?

If you are transcoding in Media Composer to DNxHD 36, then it will manage all the relinking. It does not use the filename you see at the directory level, but is managed by its own database. If you have a sequence, highlight and do a relink – at the bottom of the dialog window is a relink to a specific codec data rate, or highest, etc. Give that a try.

The higher profile (and potentially higher paying) jobs are mainly Avid due its success and longevity in the Hollywood studio and worldwide broadcast markets. But to say all jobs are Avid is not true.
FCP7 still has a little life in it, but I have not come across jobs requesting Sony Vegas, but does not mean they are not out there. Depending on which part of the country, which niche of the video industry you are interested in, then you will also find a lot of Adobe Premiere. There are even some broadcast networks adding Premiere Pro to the pipeline.

So depending on where you live, where you are in your career path, and which part of the industry you want to be in, you will find different NLE’s being used. In today’s climate, you are better off being versed in several NLE’s and it is your creative editing skills that will keep you on a job.

There’s nothing I know in Media Composer that will allow a thumbnail to be defined by a third party application.

If you put your sequence(s) in its own bin, then “set bin display ” (bottom hamburger menu) to show reference clips (check box), the bin will now show all the master clips that made up that sequence (in addition to any subclips, group clips etc). Select all the master clips, but them in another new bin and transcode those. Turn off “show references in the bin with the sequences to return to normal view.

Let me know what the timecode on that clip looks like when you step out through it for a few seconds worth – what is it counting as?
I don’t know if I would edit DPX directly, but once AMA linked you can do a transcode to DNxHD/HR.

If you have stacked effects on an event, you can step into the event on the timeline (the triangles in the timeline next to green/yellow selection). Step all the way in, replace the event with an overwrite or blue arrow and step out again.
