Also keep in mind that having a patent granted doesn’t necessarily imply they will develop it and bring it to market. But it does mean that it may cause other manufacturers to delay, revamp or not deliver, or allow Apple to license it. Lots of ways that patents can work for a company.

It seems they RED has made a change to the output that I haven’t played with when spans from the same clip are generated. It used to me that the AAF file got overwritten when subsequent AAF were created from the same clip. But the MXF files were always fine. It seems that instead of just adding _s001 to the end of the AAF filename, they do it as a new folder/directory.
In theory, as I am not in front of a system right now, is that the MXF files still have unique names and they should all just be copied to the MXF file folder in the Avid MediaFiles folder. If they do overwrite each other, then RED really needs to make sure there are unique names created. And in the meantime, you can make additional folders in the Avid MediaFiles/MXF folder such as 10, 11, etc. and put the MXF files in there own folder so they don’t overwrite each other. Open the bin and import all the AAF files from their respective folders.
That should do it.

Maybe I’m not seeing it, but I didn’t see any reference to Media Composer. You can use iPad today as a second screen and click on things,or display additional windows – for example I use to display a large timecode window with about 6 lines of metadata like clip name, timecodes, durations and such. There are also apps that can be used to map keyboard functions to and you can use that – all available now.

Avid sold off the consumer video and audio product lines, not the professional line. Media Composer, Symphony, DS, and Pro Tools are still part of Avid.

I use FilmScribe for all that reporting as it allows for TAB and XML. If you’re new to it, it may take a little ramp up time to get used to all the different report types, metadata selections, etc. But can be quite powerful once you know it.

I tried to convert it after the download, but nothing would work. It appears to be more of an interactive slide deck (ala PowerPoint), than it is a video file for playback which may be the problem.

The link isn’t working, but have you tried download helper in FireFox with a conversion as part of the process? It mght work, but I couldn’t get to your link to try it on that particular file.
