You can do that as well my mapping the script button functions to the source monitor. From there you play and park on the clip position and with the line highlighted on script, add a mark. Depending on amount of clips, duration, and such, all methods are somewhat clunky and more time consuming compared to phonetic alignment with ScriptSync.

I am on Win 7 and just tried manual syncing of clips against a script and it works just fine. Drag clip onto script, highlight take(s) (lasso them), then hit the record button (top left in window with a dot). The clip line turns green and will start playing. As it plays, click the line that matches on the script. Hit the space bar to stop. Marks appear in script.
One issue I noticed and brought up in beta is that the icons at the top of the page have no color… the record button used to be red, and flashed when the the syncing mode was active. Also, the color span selection does not display what is selected. You do have the ability to shift sync positions, but all of that is manual now as you know.
Script Based editing (without the phonetic sync technology) has not gotten much attention in many years, and 8.3 does show further regression as noted.

Assuming the timecodes are counting at the same rate (720 can count at 30 as well with frames pulled out to be 24)…
In the relink dialogue box when setting up, you need to check the “ignore extension” as well as enter “_” in the “ignore characters after last occurrence”. See here:

As per previous, I would also try copying the new files to their own numbered folder in the Avid MediaFiles/MXF/ folder structure to better manage this issue. Copy then to a “2” or “10” etc. Delete the MSM file so they rebuild, launch MC. If still not visible, navigate to that folder and import the mob MSM file as suggested which should populate the bin with the master clips.

Can you try a mixdown of the timeline and see if the same occurs?

I don’t believe Sony has released an AMA plug-in that supports this camera yet. And despite it being MXF. there’s more to it than just the wrapper, such as the codec itself. One can use the Drastic Technology’s Media Reactor AMA plug-in which does decode these files via AMA, but at a price. More info here:

I hear that DNxHR is next up to be delivered as an update to 8.3. I am also told that Resolve will be releasing DNxHR support fairly soon, so you could take your mixdown exported out as an AAF, open in Resolve and export deliverbales from there. 8.3 did release with limited support for file-based 4K support other than DPX…
Extact dates unknown on either of those, but I suspect sooner than later.

Good question for Avid. I run into mismatches between driver for Resolve and Media Composer on my PC. Most likely a question of resources and testing, as we are told when asking on other issues.

Can you successfully link to a single essence file within the Clip folder? If so, then go back to the folder AMA version, and make sure you are at the right level of folder selection. Also check to make sure there are no illegal characters in any of the folder names at any level of the folder structure being linked. Slashes (/) being the most common culprit.
