    Hello,

what is the best way to relink files to an imported aaf sequence?
The aaf is made on an other composer installation.
The edit was made on a HD timeline with proxys.

Now i want to reconnect the timeline in Composer 8.3 to the original 4K Red .r3d files.

I tried to import the source files with ama. But they don´t connect?

    Still don´t relink.

Isn´t there a more or less easy way to do it.
This should be a simple process?

It can be easy, but one needs to know how the proxies were made for the offline – meaning the R3D file can be referenced by an embedded REEL which is only 8 characters, or is it the entire 16 characters? AMA uses the entire 16 original file name, and if a spanned file, will also include the _001 (which is stupid, but that’s the way it works).

So, look at one of the offline proxy clips and bring up both the TAPE and SOURCE FILE column and see where the R3D file name lives, and whether it is 8, 16, or more. Then we can take it from there and set up the relink options.

Thank you Michael for your reply!

    For Example
the Filename in the imported aaf bin is:

    a013_c015_1006rx

the file structure on disc is:

    Folder:
    ProjectX > Day 1 Card 20 > A013_1006JD.RDM

    File:
    A013_C015_1006RX_001.R3D
    A013_C015_1006RX_002.R3D

The person who generated the aaf used 720p dnxhd proxies (see screenshot)
I want to relink to the original .r3d files via ama.

Assuming the timecodes are counting at the same rate (720 can count at 30 as well with frames pulled out to be 24)…

In the relink dialogue box when setting up, you need to check the “ignore extension” as well as enter “_” in the “ignore characters after last occurrence”. See here:

    Thank you very much Michael!
    The underscore does the trick!

Unfortunately i just ran into the next relinking problem.

I made some DNxHR UHD MXF files in Davinci Resolve,
which i want to relink to the editors timeline.

I opened the media tool and found the clips, dragged them into a new bin in the project.
Clips are in the folder c:/Avid Mediafiles/MXF/1
(i had to select “all projects” in media tool to find the files?)

    I tried several relink options.

Is there a problem with the duration? File type?

I am at my wit’s end.

If you don’t have the full span of media available, then relinking it will not happen. Tape names seems to be fine. Did you render with handles in Resolve?

No, i didn´t rendered frame handles.

The rendered files are shorter. Only the length of the edit.
What is the workflow to get them back from Resolve to MC?
