Sounds nice, I could use a place for the sound receiver, and perhaps they can add a cup holder to the other side or place for craft service to drop off a little something for us. I feel a little lopsided from time to time without eating. LOL

AJA Kona LH will down convert for delivery needs and allow HD monitoring during the edit. If you want broadcast quality monitoring you should be shopping for such, Dell and ACD are not the same thing. If you are thinking about a field monitor and an edit monitor all in one then I would look at the JVC line. https://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=177769 I have used this JVC monitor and it is really nice.
As far as your 5K budget is concerned you won’t be outfitting the EX1 and finishing the edit bay with in budget. The Kona LH and the JVC will soak up the 5K and then some, but you will be working with real equipment and know what you really have while shooting and editing.Good Luck

And then you can experience the rolling shutter first hand.

“I’ll have to check it out on my main system and see if it flickers when outputting through the Blackmagic Decklink card. Because that could be a problem.”
This is what I meant by rendering, FCS2 or FC6 finally sets the sequence for the format of the first clip dropped on the timeline. You will need to render out or as you put it output to your final deliver and that is what I was asking about. Describing all of the details may help others and may help you find an answer.Good Luck

Does it render out with a flicker?
It would be great to know what format was recorded, frame rate, transfer method, how FC recognizes the clips, what sequence settings you are using and any other info you could provide.

I’m still waiting for it, and it will connect to the port on the lens. VZ only produced 100 of these and I didn’t pre-order. I will get it from the next run.

As of right now the auto focus on the EX1 is IMO not really good enough for tight longer lens work if this is what you need. I’m sure you could get good DoF for wider lens work and avoid this auto focus for now. And I’m sure one could add a remote motor and hire a focus puller but I don’t think this is what you wanted to hear. Perhaps there is someone here who has knowledge of a firmware update that could possibly help this wandering AF.

I see you have asked the same basic question here and over on the HDV forum. If you ultimately want HQ quality and don’t want to go down the HDV road then here is what you can do. Record HQ to the card, dump the entire BPAV file to a firewire drive to store to continue to shoot, then when finished transfer the BPAV file back to the card one file session at a time and use the camera to play back, sending the signal out the HD-SDi port into the Avid and capture into whatever intermediate codec Avid uses. This isn’t quite the process I described on the HDV page back it cuts time off of the process with higher overall quality.

Thanks Phillip, I haven’t seen this unit as yet, I made a purchase yesterday for the VariZoom lens control. I also found out that the VariZoom unit doesn’t have the speed control dial like some of there other units, does the Libec have a dial to control the speed besides the rocker lever? The link you posted is only a picture.
And yes as Don said the batteries drain themselves if left on the EX1.
Good Luck

Just don’t leave the battery on the camera over night, you definately won’t like that.
