SONY XDCAM EX1 FREE RUN problems

Hi,

I am having problems with EX1 free run mode.

I set free run mode with IR remote to 2 EX1 in the same time and only after 2 min TC was different on both camera. Than I took another and do it same thing again with 3 EX1.

TC was different in every camera only after 2 min. Difference was about 3 frames.

After 2-3 hours of running difference was about 2 sec.

Is there anybody else having the same problem?

All cameras have this problem. The higher tech cameras have TC in and TC out. You start with a lead camera and set the TC and then run a cable to Cam 2 and out of that the Cam 3 Etc.

On the larger cameras, you can use a Deneke Time code box which you set with one camera and then use one on all of the other cameras. they have a crystal in them that keeps accurate time.

TC in and out is one thing that we were all hoping for but that’s not the case. What we will do is use a Deneke TC slate and shoot the slate occasionally or each time the cameras restart. Then, on each clip, you align to the TC displayed on the slate instead of the TC recorded on the tape.

for answering my question.

You solved my dilemma.

We use slate a lot, but on ENG shooting some times there is no time for slate.
I tried to make syncing two shoots faster (with using free run on ex1) but its clear that it can not be done in that way with EX1.

Just take along a camera flash & flash it for a sync point.
