– is it possible to “repopulate” a BPAV-folder with clips from FCP so that he can import to Premiere in the normal Window workflow?
I don’t believe there a workflow to reverse the EX Quicktime back to RAW EX files. What I believe you must do is always keep the RAW BPAV file intact and he could have used Clip Browser for his Windows needs.
What he doesn’t have is the Quicktime EX codec and I’m not sure it is or will will ever be available for PC as Apple wants to sell more Mac’s.

I always keep the RAW files.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying here. Using MINUS green reduces the green values within lighting units spectrum. IMO Using minus green on lights dedicated for the green screen is counter productive. Using minus green on back lights dedicated for your subject helps fight the ambient bounce back of the green from the screen. Perhaps you just didn’t clarify yourself or I’m reading this wrong.

Those of us who have worked extensively with green and blue screens know there are green and blue florescent tubes to help enhance the effect.

Hang in there Tony, You mentioned using the Log and Capture and you need to use Log and Transfer or the stand alone XD Cam Transfer program to rewrap the raw EX series files to .mov Quicktime files.

I wouldn’t go with this combo, I really think you should hold off from the FireStore as hard drive recorders or a thing of the past. I know someone that purchased the P2 HVX-200’s and the FireStore units and hated it as they had major issues. I think you should save your money and wait for the Convergent Design Flash XDR or the Nano Flash (compact flash memory) recorder as it will deliver near uncompressed quality way beyond any firewire connection hard drive recorder, also the CF cards have drastically reduce in price and some 32 gig cards are now down to $84 .

It is also said that the EX series cameras can use SDHC solid state memory that will lower the cost of the media by 75-85 percent.

I believe the 170 is still using 720p native CCD’s while the EX sensors are full raster HD. I wouldn’t rush into this just yet as I’m sure Panasonic is brewing up some better competition. IMO The 170n isn’t it. Purchasing expensive P2 cards is over. If budget is a concern look for a used HVX-200 and save yourself a lot of money.

I’m running Quicktime 7.5.5, OS 10.5.5, and XD Cam Transfer 2.7.0 on my MacBook Pro 2.4 with no issues. Can you provide the software versions you are working with? You also need FCS2 updated to at least 6.0.2.

The Red has one large single sensor opposed the EX series that has 3-sensors. The lenses are different and you may not have good results using a 35mm lens for a video camera that has 3-sensors.

In XD Cam Transfer look into the Information/Logging window and see if there is SMI files that have check boxes next to them, if so check these boxes and transfer. You can find my email address under my profile and I give you a call if you send a contact number should you still need help.

Did you copy the original BPAV folder to a drive and do you still have it? SMI tells me that you have a very long clip and it is broken up. What version of XD Cam Tranfers and Clip Browser do you have?
