The problem here isn’t the laptop or the SP material, I’m guessing it is that he is working directly off the laptop system drive that can’t keep up especially if it is a 5400 rpm drive. I would first try an external drive.

As Don said “Start Sony’s Clip Browser and navigate to the BPAV folder you just copied and view all the clips making sure they’re good”, however with the XD Can Transfer program you only need to navigate to the folder holding the BPAV folder to import the clips into this program, and this XD Cam Transfer program is where you will re-wrap the raw EX files into Quicktime .mov files to work in Final Cut. So basically you have doubled your storage needs. IMO it is a must to keep the original BPAV folder for archive as you can always make new Quicktime files from it should storage become an issue.

Also can you provide the Quicktime version and OSX version you are currently working with. I know Don keeps records on compatibility solutions.

What is your workflow to offload the footage from the SxS cards, how are you handling the files? Please include every detail.

If you are just looking for a cable connection to transfer XD Cam files then from what I have read and viewed from the manual is that this unit has a 6-pin ilink or firewire connection on the back and these cables have been around for a while. Depending on the Firewire connection you need to make on the computer side will determine the exact cable you need. ilink or firewire 400 cables come in 4-pin -4 pin, 4-pin – 6-pin, 6-pin -6-pin, and firewire 800, 8-pin-8-pin connecters.

    Claudio,
Answering one of two questions isn’t enough information to help you. If you don’t provide the exact computer model and editing software and its version along with current Quicktime and OSX versions it doesn’t really help anyone help you. From what I’m reading on these forums is there could be an issue with recent MBP PCI express slots not reading the SxS card properly. I have a Mac Book Pro and it is great, never had an issue. But you don’t know what MBP I have because I haven’t identified it to you, got me…… Just because we both have MBP computers doesn’t help solve issues. Don’t be afraid to ask or answer any question here, know one is judging anyone concerning experience or level of equipment.

To use the HQ record mode you with need to upgrade to Final Cut 6.0.2 as it has the EX 35Mbps XD Cam codec. You can use the SP (HDV) record mode with FCP 5

Quicktime is an Apple application so in order to use Apples Final Cut they make us use the XD Cam Transfer program to re-wrap the file into a Quicktime .mov

Try downloading Stream Clip to convert.
