By the sound of this I could believe you are a producer with a small startup production and want to offer employment to a friend or relative. Just a guess.

I’ve been a Gaffer most of my 27 year career and never had anyone tell me where to find a comprehensive book or tutorial to take in, I had to learn this stuff the hard way, by actually getting permission from the elders on set after I did the grunt work starting out. I would suggest teaching someone if you know lighting and the instruments, and BTW a redhead is a 1k in the USA. I don’t teach anyone who doesn’t have the passion to learn. If you need someone to just fetch a light then label them and anyone will do. Oh and BTW there is a really great gaffer in Sydney that goes by “the Fridge” who could recommend someone.

There is one book by Harry Box you could consider.

Then the 700 is a clear winner for me. Wow Sony is selling firmware to upgrade a camera? What a concept. I would love to read more about this Don. Where is it?

One thing I would look into is the CCD’s of each unit. I believe the Sony has full raster 1080 interlaced only with the 700 (need to check) and the Panasonic still interpolates the image created with their CCD’s to make 1080. If the 700 was progressive there would be no question for me. I believe it is coming and could be called the 750. Marketing…look under the hood first.

No, there is no direct transcode at this point without re-rendering or direct capturing. You can always work with XD cam natively and reset the render to Pro Rez under User Preferences, Render tab and set codec to Pro Rez

Wow this worked great, I now have the pulldown removed from your instructions. It was one solid clip and I used Capture Mode setting Field 1-Field 2, Fields setting Style 1, _BC_ setting placing the curser on the first of 2 mismatched frames. Thank you very much you have really helped me and my production of Faithful Friends.

You’re right, I transcoded to Pro Rez then I can use Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown, I’m still not sure of the proper setting but the best so far was capture mode Field 1, Fields A. And now I’m testing Smooth Cam on the clip as well as Topaz Enhance Clean RGB filter to fix the faces from grain.

Cinema Tools gives me an error, this movie has temporal compression. I really don’t know how to use this program.
I sent the XDR over to Panavision

Is this a permanent installation? or are you just lighting it to shoot it. Back light is your friend with water and you will want a low ring of (medium PAR 64) Sea PARs aimed vertically up at the water.

I just don’t like multiple T-5 tubes that continuously wrap back and forth creating multiple sources. Just not a fan of this type of tube, and they have never IMO really ever matched the original CRI or Kelvin readings of their original T-12 tubes.
I like T-12 or as I have built T-8 (dim able) units with properly designed reflectors to magnify the single source double ended linear tubes. And yes wrapping a layer of diffusion can remedy the diva for my needs. I don’t own or order the diva units. I do understand that Kino has found it much easier to dim these types of tubes that adds a nice feature to the line. I’m in no way trying to discourage anyone away from these diva lites, I’m just stating my personnel opinion.

    Good Luck
