I would shoot 1080 (24-30p to match frame rates of HDV) with the EX3. The 720p HDV can easily be converted to 1080. I would always use the best format the camera can provide.

You might try updating the XD cam Transfer to 2.8

Or if the computer doesn’t see the card at all reinstall the SxS driver.

    Roger,
I’m no expert on fibre storage but I do know that the interface card for any raid solution needs to be placed in the right PCIe slot of the Mac allowing the device to work at the maximum performance. If you need to expand the internal esata raid (want more drives/more storage) then I highly recommend http://www.maxupgrades.com
I added 2 more drives (6-total, 5-stripped together, 1-system drive) to my Mac Pro placing them into the upper DVD optical drive area giving me even more total overall transfer speed. Syed is the owner and he will give you all the personnel support you need to take even more advantage of your Mac. Syed has also supplied my Animal Planet production with all the external esata raid solutions and they all have been amazing work horses at ridiculously low costs.
I highly recommend you speak to Syed as he could even help you with your current hardware.

I agree with this, however the EX camera handle zoom is the best answer to creep zooms that I know of. In the menu you can set the Zoom Speed on the handle zoom control, I set the High to 3 and the Low to 1 or 2. It takes about 1.2 seconds to get it started and it works great. The rocker switches like you say vary the electrical signal and no matter how steady the operator the zooms can stutter as you said. But not the handle zoom control, it works great for me. I have the Libec and I find it very difficult to use for slow zooms.

Wow, I never thought these readers would be discontinued, B&H has discounted them. So I found 4 somewhere else.

I’m not going to begin to define the difference between SSD and SxS formats but the SSD cards do not have the record/transfer speed like the SxS format. Here is something you should have a look at if you are looking for alternatives to SxS.

I have 3- of the 500’s and they would work great in a small area like this.

In SP record mode you can record 24p for a progressive look. This is the only progressive setting for SP.
The clips will have pulldown added resulting in a 1080i 60 HDV editable file.
