These Libec zoom controls are good, however the extension cables are very expensive. A 7′ extension is over $100 and they don’t lock together so you will need to tape them. I spoke directly to Libec in Torrance Ca about the connector as it has threads on one side but it is missing the locking nut on the other. Perhaps someone here can recommend another source for these 8 pin cables?

I’m curious to know if it is on the master disk too? I would have to think it was an issue with media as I believe there is an error correction control used with the predictable Long GOP codec from the playback deck.

Every location has issues, and asking exactly what grip gear you should consider is why you either have a key grip that bring his truck or you have the experience to know what is needed. Separation is the key here.
Separating the light designated for the green screen can be accomplished a 4×4 floppy for each 4×4 kino.
1.) How far should the Kino 4 Banks ideally be from the screen?
I would think 7-8 feet. I like to have the green screen at least a stop under the Key light.
2.) How many lamps would you recommend turning on for each 4 Bank from this distance to get the best green?
again only use what is needed 2-3 tubes per Kino.
3.) Do you think I would be better off using an Arri 150 or 300 for the backlight?
It doesn’t matter if you use a 6k HMI PAR as long as it is controlled to what looks right and not to hot.
4.) What type of gel or scrim should I look into for the backlight?
Some use a 1/4 -1/2 minus green magenta gel to help ensure the hair light is clean of green spill. I like a warm tonality, you need to understand where this image is going to be joined with. In most cases a nice warm back light is appropriate.If this is your first green screen go slow and make sure you review your notes. Take time to use any light meter you may have and if possible look into the field monitor for help, as long as it is properly setup. If you see green on your subject turn out a few tubes on the green screen. No big deal. Have fun….

One of the things mentioned in the article was that Sony released the firmware update online and then removed it. My question to those reading this or the one’s who have been working so hard as beta testers with these cards is, has anyone successfully downloaded it, and were they successful as an end user updating their own camera? I would like to do this myself as I’m sure others would too.I also love the pelican case.

The P2 system does have a stand alone battery operated card reader that can offload the card to an internal hard drive. This comes at a premium price. Tim I think you need to search and read more about these two workflows as these questions can most likely be answered from reading the brochures.

Well I think you could talk with the trainer and work out a cut point at least once every 57 minutes (if using 16 gig SxS cards recording HQ mode) to be able to switch to the next card. This would mean you must either have enough cards to cover the total time of the training or have someone offload the media from a card and return it to you while you shoot. I couldn’t imagine anyone producing a 3 hour training video from one camera without cuts. IMO This would be very unprofessional.

I saw these lights at NAB too. What I didn’t like about them was the huge dimmer (ball & chain) as I was looking for a compact solution for traveling. I wasn’t to crazy about the mixing of colored LED’s as I would like knowing I could get more light from the unit. I think there will be many many more companies coming out with LED fixtures as this is truly the future of lighting.
I ended up purchasing 3-LED 500’s from Prompter People that are extremely affordable They have been great, I even had a nice anvil type case made for them.I held off from purchasing the LED 1000 units as I heard these units may not have used the same LEDs that were used in the 500’s.

I wouldn’t rush into purchasing to many LED units as I’m sure they will dramatically improve in the next few years.

Can I use the SxS reader to feed footage from camera directly to thumb or hard drive when computer not on hand?
NO, you need a computer, the card reader is just a box that the SXS card fits into and connects to any computer via USB. You will need this however there could be generic alternatives turning up as it seems there are some folks working to find alternatives flash memory cards that work with adapters to curb the high cost of the SxS cards.

I use an older 415 and I use rubber mat and gaffers tape to build up the circumference. Yes this is stuff an old gaffer would have laying around his garage.
