I appreciate the redirect but I’m posting my findings on this topic on a forum where the threads are more (IMO) specific. As I said I’m looking for others to report their actual experiences on BRANDS. I appreciate you telling me that Transcend and Sandisk are the only cards that work, but I would prefer to read it from actual users and I’m not sure from your post you have actually tried either brands you have mentioned. Since you have read my post you now know the Patriot brand does in fact work but you must wait for the recording to end and write to the card before recording again. I can’t imagine every card is made by their own company, I’m sure there are some brands made by the same manufacturer, just thought this thread could help find the brands that work and the brands that don’t.

And never delete any of these files ever again. You will need all of them.
It always amazes me when people think intuitively and think opening and deleting files is what they are suppose to be doing. I honestly believe this won’t be the last post this month like this. I remember way back when Micro Soft Windows introduced the Registry and everyone knew it would be trouble if they opened it, but it didn’t take long for many to need to reformat and start over. Oh well I learned the hard way a lot in my life too.

I did my update myself on my EX1 and I found that the SDI out wouldn’t play 24PsF feature while in record mode so I did a camera Reset All and viola, it worked. I’m thinking that the tech may have forgot to reset the camera as part of the firmware update. My EX3 doesn’t have this 24PsF output feature and I am wondering why, the original firmware is the same as the EX1 v1.02_0078, however it does record to the MxR/SDHC combo.

You will need the entire BPAV folder to work with the XD Cam Transfer program. You should never need to go beyond the BPAV folder for any reason, leave these other folders and files inside it alone. When you make quicktime .mov using the XD Cam Transfer program you direct it to the parent folder containing the BPAV folder, then all of the files can be previewed. SMI clips are spanned clips that are larger than 4 gigs.

I save what I call the raw or original BPAV Folder as it will allow you to create Quicktme and/or MXF files from them. I could never be sure I wouldn’t need these originals. You must place this BPAV folder inside a Parent Folder and never rename the BPAV folder.
Anytime you re-encode/transcode (a digital file to another digital file) you may loss a tiny bit of of quality, but if you are just re-wrapping the original file then there is no quality hit at all.

Noah, I gotta believe Sony has bigger plans for the EX series and these cards will be needed when they finally up the bite rate to solid state media.
On the flip side Convergent Design offers the Flash XDR recording with compact flash cards, and you can use cheap 32 gig card and record 100 Mbps without issues.Michael Palmer
