I agree.
It would be great if there was a diagnostic program to evaluate the memory cards.

Great to hear there will be a warning, so can you tell us just how the camera is capable of diagnosing the condition of a media card.My guess is that the latest firmware creates a counter file held on the memory card and when it reaches a given number it reacts. Perhaps this is another reason for the reduced record time with the newest firmware.
I’m sure many here would also like to hear the technical differences of the 2 types (SLC / MLC) of SxS memory as well, and does the camera also know the difference?

I would renegotiate this contract to only submit a finished (show) product and keep your whatever footage you like.
I would record both natively to your camera and also to a Nano Flash in the field so you have a redundant recording system in place and delivery/archive with SR HDcam tapes. I would make sure the editors had a redundant hard drive system in place or backed up to LTO.Good Luck

Chris there has been 2 firmware updates that I know of and the first update wasn’t something Sony wanted the end user to do because it was a two part firmware flash, somehow this firmware was found on a Sony site from a country I can’t recall and it was very risky for some to try and install, and I believe it was a PC only software. I believe this was the update that most people should allow Sony to install however I found a reliable PC and did it myself holding my breath. I believe the update you did is straight forward and most people shouldn’t have any issues.

I remember the EX3 MSRP was $11000.00 when it was introduced and it still sells for $8300.00

Actually, it could be better depending on the codec you choose. This is a great option as it is an opportunity for a redundant recording, however I use and love my Nano and for what my needs are it goes way beyond my needs.

Neither of these cameras have really hit the streets yet and to explode over the price without knowing the capabilities is jumping the gun. The only thing I know about the F3 is that it is a true 12-14 bit camera that has future abilities for dual link (4:4:4) recordings, this is far and away beyond this Panasonic (8-bit) AVCHD unit.
I will say the Panasonic is a much better idea than any DSLR that needs all those extra gizmos to make video.

What clips contain tc breaks? Please explain. I understand the TOD breaks but the clip always has a first frame of tc.
Its really to bad Sony and Apple don’t play well together, it would solve this issue if Sony would offer a Quicktime wrapper option like other manufacturers. IMO This is just another reason to add a Nano Flash to your camera bag.
